Toilet issues...
Very polite staff. Room very nice. Toilet too close to the bath! I am small and 8 stone, and I kept knocking off the toilet roll when using the toilet. If you were a large person you wouldnt have been able to sit on the toilet! Very nice clean hotel

Don't be fooled by the pictures
Be warned - a small double is really a re-configured single with a 4'6" bed squeezed in. The room was tiny, which made it very uncomfortable. We stayed at the Dukes Head becuase the the pictures were so enticing and because of its location and were happy to pay a premium price for the additional comfort; but the room had no resemblance at all to the posted pictures which were highly misleading. We could have stayed a little further out of town in a MUCH nicer room for 70% of the price. AND this is the first time in YEARS that I have passed the chambermaid's trolley in the corridor and not be tempted to at leat have a look. Really - skimping on "little" extras" for this kind of hotel - shameful. Stay somewhere else, pay less and enjoy more.

Disappointing standards and service
We had a number of problems with this hotel, it is definitely not up to expected standard for its price range. On arriving, night staff were unable to make second key card for our twin room. Room floor was very dusty - not hoovered properly. Only very basic shampoo provided, no other toileteries. No glasses, cutlery or fridge in room. On our second day we got back to room late to find housekeeping had not visited - nothing was clean, no fresh towels etc. Night manager was very helpful and got us at least fresh towels but really unacceptable lapse. Room doors slam very loudly so not good if you are a light sleeper. The ground floor bar / lounge area is nice but otherwise things are a bit basic. Car park is a long walk round to the front as there is no rear entrance, and its often full - though the manager was very helpful one night and let me park in a reserved space. Breakfast was OK, but again not as good as we've come to expect from hotels in similar price range elsewhere. So on balance it was a disappointing stay, but it's a decent property in a good location so with a bit more effort they could improve.
