Lovely hotel, excellent location
We love this hotel. Staff are great the hotel is quirky with the best views. Location perfect, just by Magdalene College and The Cam. We have stayed here 8 times over the past year so I guess that says it all!!

Tiny rooms
I was put in a very tiny room so tiny that it was hard to move around in the run ones I was in it. Initially I was going to be in a distant room but lady at reception changed the room number during check in! Not sure why they did that.

Best place to stay in Cambridge
Love staying here. The location is perfect and the staff couldn't be more helpful. This was the smallest room we have stayed in and it did feel a bit cramped but great bathroom and super, quirky decor as usual. Suggest book early for dinner as they get really busy - we struggled to find standing space for pre-dinner drinks!! Best views in Cambridge - in fact we are staying again this weekend!!!

1st Ever review - Not great
Regretfully my first ever review - Recently stayed at the Varsity hotel with my wife and on arrival was advised I had been “upgraded” when I arrived in room it was clear the room was the last available and was not the upgraded. The bathroom was catered for either old or disabled person. I use hotels for business on a regular basis maybe approx 25 times per year in mid range hotels. As staying away from children I thought we would make most of it, relax and paid a considerable amount for room which this didn’t reflect quality of room the other places were on the whole much better. The terrace bar has a great view of Cambridge but the quality again is poor for value - it’s quite expensive but if your treating spouse it’s not end of the world. To enter the spa you have to leave the hotel and walk around corner which wasn’t a huge issue but thought was part of hotel be fair the spa is pretty cool especially the jacuzzi that looks out to canal. The hotel also offer valet parking which although seems good in principal the issue is that it will again cost you for the pleasure which is not made clear - only only noticed on credit card bill when I left. I was left very disappointed and underwhelmed by this experience. The staff are very friendly and maybe I was just unlucky with room etc etc.

Good 6.0
A bit disappointing
We stayed two nights and had both the continental breakfast and cooked breakfast. The cooked breakfast is not worth the extra money, all a bit dry. The bar on the roof is very pleasant but service is very slow. Evening meal was OK, but expensive, we ate elsewhere on the second night. The bedroom was very clean, but the pillows are poor. Today, trying to be sustainable is increasingly important, so why were towels changed when we left them on rails and should not have been changed? It is time for hotels to give up on the small shampoo and shower gel bottles, they are not eco-friendly, nor straws in the bar. The best aspect is the location and helpful valet parking.
