Exceptional 10.0
This is an incredibly clean, pretty, comfortable and secure budget hotel only a few blocks (uphill) from the Waterfront Station. When I actually saw the others I was looking at, I was glad I ended up at the Kingston. Staff friendly and there seemed to be always someone around. My room was a nice place to spend time and there are public areas with cozy furniture as well. If you don't mind sharing bathrooms, it's a perfect kind of place. The sauna is beautiful and has room for a few family or friends. The block it's in is not too scenic, but it's pretty quiet and close to everything I wanted, including, on Dunsmuir, a block of very reasonable priced international restaurants--falafel, noodles, sushi... Kind of a student area I think, that includes two excellent second-hand bookstores. it's a ten- minute walk to a ten-minute bus ride to Stanley Park, where I spent a lot of my time. Also close to the No 4 bus that goes across Granville bridge into Kitsilano. Transit is excellent, once you figure out the system.

Very Good 8.0
A basic, friendly, cute, hotel-hostel hybrid.
TLDR: Very cute place, nice staff, good location. Would stay here again! The good: Very cute and clean room, I loved having a sink/mirror in my room. Wifi worked pretty well. Staff were very nice and helpful. Amazing location downtown near gastown. I felt very safe walking around at night by myself. It was also fairly quiet overall. The meh:The breakfast area could be bigger with more choices. For the price I would expect a hot breakfast rather than basic cereal +bagels. However, the coffee was good and the attendant very friendly. The bad: There are not enough bathroom facilities. My floor had one bathroom with a shower/sink/locking door, and one with a few bathroom stalls & shower, but no sink to wash your hands at. A few times the other guests did not clean up after themselves but overall the bathrooms were clean. The room had no A/C which happened to be fine for my trip as the weather was cool but would be an issue if it was hotter.

I was pleasantly surprised by the room...I expected less. The hotel was neat and clean. Desk staff were very nice and helpful. We didn't partake in the free breakfast, only because we chose to sleep instead. Good value for the money!

Avoid this place
Not good experience, hotel staff was very rude and arrogant.

The location was perfect for exploring the downtown area and is very close to the sky train stations. Good value for the money, especially compared to other hotels. Comfortable stay, quiet. Breakfast included. Nice sized washroom and closet in our two single bed room. Would certainly stay here again.
