Lousy service. dreadful food.
I have stayed in this hotel on several occasions always hoping it would get better each time I visit. Unfortunately,y it gets worse. I recently stayed for 1 night and decided to use the hotel's restaurant. The bar was being blasted by the TV's all around the bar and restaurant. I personally like a quiet meal, no chance of that. I ordered soup followed by lamb. The soup arrived and was stone cold, This was quickly returned and replaced. The lamb arrived, the only edible part was the mash. The lamb was like old leather, tough and inedible. Again I complained, no reaction. So I left. I complained the next morning only to be told I should have reported the food to the duty manager. Conclusion, food quality poor, service poor, customer care poor. Will I stay again, no, I will be using the Holiday Express instead.

Comfortable accommodation in an elderly building with associated quirkiness! Pleasant, helpful staff. Excellent central location.

I have stayed before, perfect as a stopover, or for longer if you want to visit the City.

Good but noisy from the bar
Although the hotel itself is good, the music from the bar downstairs on Friday night during my stay was very loud and annoying. Maybe there should be some control over the volume of the music. It’s so loud that i could hear the tv at all.

Good 6.0
High expectations -low satisfaction
The hotel itself was fine. The breakfast service was pitiful at best. The first morning I received my coffee right away upon entering the restaurant. My hot food order came in reasonable time but the toasts were cold. What's the point of serving cold toasts??? Must be an English thing. The evening meal I had in the hotel restaurant (because it was pouring rain outside and I couldn't be bothered after a long day). The food was mediocre at best. The breakfast on the 2nd morning was a terrible experience. The coffee barista had done a walkabout and nowhere to be seen. The orange juice dispenser was empty and the service staff 92 for a full hotel :-( ) was well you get the picture. One customer, who was leaving told me it took 45 minutes to get his eggs... and there were only 10 people in the restaurant at the time. I asked for my money back and went without breakfast. I was given apologies but I told them they had a management issue - They knew the hotel was fully booked but they had no staff to cover... They might as well have let me cook my own eggs...

Access to shopping and transport.
Great for a stopover. Close to transport and shops. Only down side is the absence of a lift - difficult with luggage.

To Dear
This hotel is old it is clean, but to charge what they do for a room is way to much for what you get,and that is not a lot ,stayed in cheaper hotels and the room was about the same or slightly better.Good for train station and close to town centre

One night business stay.
Staff absolutely lovely. Reasonably noisy area as expected outside of a train station! Some lovely aspects, sweeping staircase, high ceilings, lots of original features. Rooms absolutely adequate, however bed quite old and lumpy.
