Pleasant Return
Always a pleasant stay at the Sunnyside Lodge.

Good 6.0
Room pricing suggested partial view but was really a view of parking lot and street. Very noisy, smelled of smoke from wood fireplace that we could never get lit. Food was not very good. Nicely decorated but a little run down. Service was friendly but nothing exceptional. Everything was closing down for the winter so we didn’t see it at its best. Disappointing.

Good Location
The Sunnyside Lodge is at a nice location along the West Shore, walking distance to Fire Sign cafe, West Shore Market, and Spoon. There is not a ton of parking at the resort, so when the restaurant is busy you may have to park in the overflow lot on the other side of 89. For many people this isn’t an issue, but when checking in it’s not realistic to haul your luggage across 89. I was traveling on my own with two young children so playing chicken on 89 in the dark with my kids and our luggage wasn’t cool. It looks like the resort has updated rooms lately. The bathrooms looked nice. Unfortunately I stepped on broken glass (from the previous guests) in ours while bathing my kids. There was also green toothpaste from previous guests on the wall that drove me insane. And the ceiling outside the bathroom/by the door is painted three different colors. In the bathroom they have a note about conserving water/hanging towels you want to reuse. So I hung out towels to reuse since we were only there two nights. Housekeeping took them and replaced them, which was irritating. The free continental breakfast was good, but there isn’t much seating in the breakfast loft. They also offer a cookie happy hour in the afternoon which is nice. There’s no elevator upstairs. Our “view” room was a view of the parking lot pretty much. You can hear 89 at night as well. That may not bother many people, but I live somewhere quieter and was surprised by how many cars speed by at night on 89.

The views of Lake Tahoe are great, my room had a balcony that overlooked the Lake. The food in the restaurant is very good too! The free breakfast was yummy especially the homemade granola to put on the yogurt. Overall a great stay!
