Modern accommodation made to look like a tradition
Had to change to another room due to a stopped drain. AC didn't really function well, fucked on and off very frequently. Breakfast was alright but it started very late in the morning, 2 hours after the sun rose. Was troublesome to close the curtain to the courtyard, to prevent people from peering in. The courtyard is nice though, service was alright for a chinese hotel. Location was quiet and yet not too far from a lovely street.

Awesome traditional hotel
Such a beautiful hotel located in a "huton" - alley way. As others have mentioned the hotel is semi difficult for some taxis to get to since the roads are very narrow but this was absolutely no problem for us. The staff was super helpful and friendly, the room clean and location great!

A charming Hutong hotel in a nice area.
It's a very nice area and the hotel is charming and likeable. There is a nice yard where you can sit and read or talk. A good mixture of guests; both western turists and Chinese tourists. You better not be allergic to cats as there are a few hanging around in the hotel (very polite cats though)

Courtyard Hotel
Postives: great Chinese and western breakfast (especially the Chinese food), great neighborhood that is fun to walk through with lots of small local places to eat including one that is famous throughout Beijing, good location near the Ping’anli subway station on the #4 line, beautiful property with charming courtyard, helpful management who have some limited english but use a translation app on their smartphones that really helps. This is also agood location for touring Beijing bytaking advantage of the subway system which cheap, modern, efficient and fairly easy to navigate for a non chinese speaker. Negatives: the hotel is located in a Hatong neighborhood and you have to go through various alleys (one too narrow for two people to pass comfortably). So you get a neighbourhood experience but cab drivers cannot get close and without directions in chinese they are going to have a hard time finding it. An additional difficulty is that google maps has the incorrect location. Use the subway station as a landmark but study how to get there from the station before you go. There is a large theater nearby. Our room just off the courtyard was modest sized. The main issue we had was poor lighting (two ceiling lights but no bedside lamp). The beds are a bit hard but we got used to it after one night and slept well. In summary, we liked the Ron Yard Hotel enough that we are going back in a couple of days after a trip elsewhere in China. We reserved a larger room this time.
