Good value, nice property, but be wary of the area
Pros - Good value, updated property with modern rooms / lobby area which we booked at a good price. Staff was super friendly and accomodating, and you're a close walk or $10 Uber ride to pretty much anywhere in the city. Cons - Our room (508) was in need of a little TLC, specifically in the bathroom where there was visible water damage / bubbling on the ceiling. The area of the city where the hotel is located has a significant homeless population which was harmless, but prevalent, and definitely noisy at night. Our room faced out onto Eddy St, and was one of the noisiest rooms I've probably ever stayed in. Would stay again, but might look first to find an alternate area at a comparable price first.

Perfect for San Fran
I am the type of traveler who constantly reads reviews and loves to save on cost wherever I can. I was fairly skeptical at first when booking this hotel as the reviews were so mixed and the stars were at a 2+ but for my first time visit to San Fran with my boyfriend we were very pleased with the hotel! It's an older building, the rooms are renovated and fairly modernized with character all around, which is something we absolutely loved. The elevator was on the smaller size, but it worked perfectly and there were never huge delays. The neighborhood did have some homeless people, but a lot of areas around San Fran did anyway, they were friendly and never bothered us when walking around (during the day and at night as well) We had a car and the hotel unfortunately doesn't have parking but they work with a hotel across the street that has in and out privileges at a very reasonable cost! The hotel is not at all far from any of the recommended areas we planned to visit. Yes, the heater didn't work as well, it did make sounds (which any older furnace would) but the hotel does provide you with a portable one heater (if needed) We however never needed the heater as we slept perfectly fine. We will absolutely be visiting San Fran again in our near future and would not hesitate to book with HTL 587 again,

Good value; watch for the location
Good hotel! It felt safe once inside and the staff were friendly and helpful. The area around is definitely a bit sketchy. I wouldn't recommend for solo female travelers, and be careful in the area. The location can make the hotel feel a bit uncomfortable at times.

A nice hotel in a good location for accessing much of the city on foot or by public transport. Really glad that we weren't deterred by the negative reviews about the homelessness. Yes, its there and a massive issue for the entire city not just the area around the hotel. They are not agressive or intimidating at all - its just a very sad situation and many were infact friendly and polite to us all.

Quite honestly one of the best hotels I have stayed at. Everything about it was nothing short of amazing.

Loved this hotel for its cute room and friendly service. It honestly had everything we needed. The only downside was the location. The nights got pretty loud for us with some of the homeless people outside blasting music and yelling making it a little difficult to stay asleep at times. This isn’t the hotel’s fault but something to keep in mind for any light sleepers out there.

Love the rustic look !!! Room was clean a bed was really comfortable! With a huge tv in the king room ! The only negatives are u can hear everything from outside even being on the 5th floor . I’m a light sleeper so hearing the cars in the morning bothered me. The location isn’t dangerous there’s just a large amount of crack heads .. outside but if you don’t bother them or even look at them it’s fine they are always in there own head so mind ur business and don’t make eye contact.i think it’s fine for 1 or two nights it’s very safe and i felt comfortable staying there. Oh and i was a little disappointed in the breakfast it was a very small selection
