    nice hotel, bad service
hotel itself was fine. given the ratings and the supposed luxury status that this hotel has, i had expected a much higher level of service. i arrived late in the evening and the key card to my room was not working and it took three different hotel employees to get me access to my room. after which, i was asked if i was planning on leaving my room for the rest of the day, which is annoying since that basically meant i was more or less locked in my room as it was made clear that i would have to go through the process of requesting access to my own room had a left it.

Too High Tech for its own good...
The hotel is very nice, the common areas are stunning. We had a lot of problems with the gadgets in the room, nothing seemed to work. The cool TV in the mirror didn't work, the sound system didn't work, the USB plug didn't work, the phone they give you to take out and explore the city, was dead (because plugged into dead USB) and didn't work... We called 4x for assistance, they came (I assume) to the room when we weren't there but nothing was fixed. At one point a manager called, offered us a bottle of Champagne and said the "systems were all new" and she wasn't sure how to make them work. We declined the Champagne because we were headed out, she never offered again. Made the first day of vacation a bit stressful, we wanted to enjoy the room and the space and we just didn't. We had a duplex room, it is SMALL and not very functional. We went in as Hotels.Com Gold with VIP benefits, we got no upgrade, even though everyday we were there we checked availability on both hotels.com and the hotels website and they had upgraded rooms available. They said they were FULLY booked all they could do was offer a suite for equivalent of $350/night. Overall just a not great 5* hotel experience. I would suggest looking at The Pulitzer, we toured this property and will definitely be staying there in May when we go back to Amsterdam.

Outstanding!! Stay in this Hotel- Above all others
Everything about this place is a 5 out of 5! First off, the Hotel is absolutely beautiful! It's one of the nicest hotels I have every been to. From the rooms to the common areas- All Great! The area is the best in the whole city! We spent days and days walking every area of Amsterdam and we really appreciate how lucky we got in choosing this Hotel. We would not have been as happy staying in another area. The food and services in the hotel were perfection. The restaurants were amazing!! Plus the hotel shopping was fantastic- Great stores with great high end selection at reasonable pricing. (Great deals from fantastic Cuban cigar store!) But the best thing about the Hotel is it's staff! I have never seen a more professional, friendly and helpful staff anywhere! Every person we encountered in every part of the hotel was amazing! In fact, we had an unfortunate incident while at the Hotel and if not for an amazing staff, we would have left the hotel dissatisfied. But the attention, empathy and professionalism given by all the staff, and in particular, Mr. Rainier Bunnik was outstanding. Overall, I have been to countless places in Europe and stayed in the finest hotels and I can say that this hotel is #1.
