Disappointing: Very uncomfortable bedding
My priority was a good night sleep and a decent shower/washroom to freshen up in, unfortunately the hotel failed me on both counts: My room 001 was located next to reception and as such had all the passing guest traffic. The rooms are not particularly well sound proofed so this was annoyance, but to be understood. What was more frustrating was the bed: I had paid more for a double bed rather than a single so that I could stretch out. Unfortunately it was simply two single beds pushed together. This is fine if they provide a double mattress, or mattress wrap to make it feel like a double but this was not the case and the beds simply split apart if you attempted to lie in the middle. Secondly the mattress was about 3 inches deep on a hard frame underneath, not at all comforting. Finally the pillows (all identical) were abnormally deep and more akin to sofa cushions so your neck was at a constant high arch. In the end I sleept without a pillow as this was marginally better. The bathroom was also disappointing: the shower water pressure/flow was very low. Also the gap between the toilet and the glass shower screen was just a few inches. This meant that when you sat on the toilet your left leg could not fit in the gap and you had to lean to the right! I am an adult male of average build and was challenged to find a way to use the toilet normally! So: noisy, uncomfortable and badly setup. I would not stay there again.

Lovely hotel & great location! Just avoid room 001
The hotel was lovely, clean and very comfy! Great location and friendly and helpful staff. The only thing i would say, is that we went to the hotel at 11am, knowing full well we wouldn't be able to check in, but tried anyway, as you never know. They said the rooms were not ready and to come back about 1pm. We knew check in officially was 2pm, so headed back at 2pm. When we got there, one room was ready but the other was not. We were told maybe 30 mins to an hour?! Fair enough the rooms were not ready when we arrived but you would expect them to be ready at the official check in time. At 2:30pm we checked with reception and they explained that one cleaner was off sick so it would have taken longer. If they had told us that at the beginning, we wouldn't have found it so frustrating. We left for the day and when we arrived back around 10:30pm, the room was ready. Our room was fine, but our friends stayed in room 001 and found that the first night was very loud and being in that room, disrupted their sleep. This is due to the room being located just behind reception, so everyone coming in late, have to walk passed room 001. Having said all of that, we would recommend this hotel and the area. The hotel was walking distance to the train station and Dam square. The only thing i wouldn't recommend was room 001!!!

Absolutely loved this hotel, was inexpensive but definitely felt like it should have been worth more. Would definitely stay at this hotel time and time again! Although not in the centre, it is very easy to get around Amsterdam by foot as everything is so close! Staff were incredibly friendly!

Good location but nothing else
We came for two nights and booked superior room. What we got was room in a basement, without any window, just underneath reception and opposite to breakfast room. Room was dark and claustrophobic and some of the equipment didn't work. We spent 2 sleepless nights there as we could hear every step, conversation or any sound from upstairs. Tea bags haven't been replenished from one day to another so we had to buy our own. Staff wasn't really very much concerned about our problem and didn't offer us any solution. We will never come back to that hotel as the room we got was far from superior room that we paid for and customer service in this hotel is disgraceful. It's a shame as the location is really good.
