Americas Best Value Inn Salina, Salina

Everything was great except the heater never was able to put out much heat and it was a very cold night. I had to sleep under my own coats to stay warm.

Despite the dog barking at me in the lobby, and the room being 50 degrees, we turned on the heater and went to sleep. The room never warmed up, and around 4:30 we decided to leave. I brought some bags to the car, when I returned to the lobby I saw the woman who checked us in the night before. I told her that our boys were sleeping with jackets on because the heater was not warming the room. She asked me what I wanted her to do and I said I wanted a refund. She said that wasn't happening so I said I would be contacting the health department. She immediately started yelled at me saying, cursing, and using physical and sexual hate speech. I asked her what she said and she continued cursing, then said "I have something for you" and walked into the back room. At this time, I took my cell phone out of my pocket and started recording video. When she returned she was brandishing a silver pistol, roughly 5" long, in her right hand with her right arm down and in front of her. Her hand was turned so that I could easily see the profile of the weapon. She walked up to the counter, keeping the weapon down below the level of the counter, then walked to her left and set the weapon down on the counter out of view. I proceeded to my room and called 911.

Nasty

Loud hotel. Room wasn’t very clean. Good if you just need a couple of hrs of sleep like I did.

I chose this motel because the reviews were slightly better than other budget hotels in the area (many of which I’ve stayed at previously), but I am shocked that this was the case. This property was by far the worst experience I’ve had in some time. To start, the building is difficult to find because it is behind another motel and does not have a sign identifying it-I thought it was an abandoned building at first. The check in process was difficult, but I think that is because the person helping me was an unpaid, untrained family member of the owner or manager. I’ll forgive that. The room itself appeared to be okay (though not nice) at first glance, but as I walked around, I noticed trash in the wastebasket, lots of debris on the floor, and cups and property left behind by a previous occupant. The med was made and the towels were folded, so I hope that they had been changed. The bedding appeared to be washed, though it did contain a few hairs, many small stains, and cigarette burns. I slept on top of the bedding just in case. The A/C, refrigerator and TV all worked, as did the toilet and sink. The bathtub was dirty and I wasn’t certain that the towels were clean, so I chose not to shower. The hallway is dirty and I could smell someone smoking from another room. Parts of the building was falling apart and none of the entrances except the main door opened from the outside, even with a key. Despite this, I did not feel safe in this location.

By far my favorite stay at a hotel through hotels.com and stays.

Large rooms. Some small maitenance issues but doable. Great value

Good place to stay if your doing a quick visit and have a dog. This was a quite and easy access to food

Mattress worn out. Sheets stained and worn. Drunks making noise for hours. Highway noise right at the window. Check in person sullen. I only stayed here because your rating said it was very good.

The hotel was disgusting and dirty, the room smelled like it was solid mold and it was disgustingly dirty!!!!! And when i approached the front desk, they didnt even care!!!! It was nastier than a pay by the hour hotel!!!! The computer chair was broke and all the pleather was ripping off, looked like it came out of dumpster. Only reason we stayed is because it was non refundable!!!!
