Butler was not helpful at all. So much waste with small plastic bottles. So many mosquitoes and housekeeping kept the doors open so long letting them all back in. Food quality not great and service was rude asking for tips all the time. I will not return

Some highlights! Our Butler Aline was awesome! She tried to help with ALL of our issues, which was many! The Diamond Pool bartender Jacinto was friendly and great to be around. We had kids in our group and he was very patient with him. He made the pool life the best part of the trip! Now to the bad! Our first room, which is not what we booked, we books a Ocean View Diamond Club with balcony jacuzzi with 2 queen beds. We got one king size bed and a pull out couch. Now, I am not cheap but I shouldnt be paying over 4K for our kid to sleep on the couch!. Not the biggest problem, Our electricity kept turning off and at first out toilet didnt flush well but on day 2, the toilet was backed up with sewage. Our butler did get us a new room( which looked more like what we booked) but had to wait around the hotel all day to get notice to pack and change rooms. We also was supposed to receive a welcome bottle of champagne in our room when we arrived but did NOT. Also, we had a $600 resort credit from booking with Hotels.com but that was USELESS. It is broken up into $15-20 increments that most places don't even know what that is. Also the descriptions made the DC club to seem like a VIP experience but really its not worth the price. Everyone can go into the same pools. All you really get is access to one restaurant and a butler if you can find yours. As mentioned ours was great but most people in our group didn't see theirs until tip time.

The good and the bad
First of all…it was spring break, so everything should be taken in that context. Right off the bat, the service was impeccable. Every staff member we encountered could not have been nice, more respectful, or more helpful. Simply amazing people working at the Royalton. And I’m sure most people are hard to deal with so serious kudos to them for maintaining the kindness and professionalism. Now as for the hotel…they had lots of activities every day to keep people entertained. The food was good, but the menus limited. The hotel is huge, so you have to do some walking. The place is looking a little run down and needs some upkeep, but it’s very clean. Spring break is seaweed season so the beach was nasty and it smelled like dead fish. Not the Royalton’s fault, though. The pools are nice with servers checking on you frequently. The rooms were clean but the AC is subpar. It’s not like AC in America and the humidity leaves your sheets feeling like wet towels. “Ocean view” rooms really don’t have a view of the ocean. If you want quiet, go to the hideaway. I’m pretty sure everyone had the same COVID testing time, 11:30, so there was a line of about 500 people to get back into the US while the Europeans and Canadiens laughed at us. When you arrive, they tell you reservations aren’t needed at the restaurants, but this was not our experience. The Italian and Mexican restaurants needed reservations. Maybe it was just a spring break thing, but it’s not what we were told. Out of space now

Honest opinion!
The hotel is definitely outdated and in need of maintenance but we did have a good time there mostly because of the people in our party. The food seems unsanitary at times and the drinks are watered down or made with cheap alcohol. If I got a dollar for every employee that was on their phone while at work I’d get another week of free stay. Let’s say customer service isn’t their strongest skill. We did meet great people like Irma a waiter at the beach area but that it. As far as the hotel itself, chipped furniture, broken mirrors, rust and broken deck everywhere are some of the issues. Get ready to tip everywhere or get even shittier service. Although we had a great time I wouldn’t recommend. If you already booked, do what we did and go with a positive mindset and enjoy it! We met great people and had a great time!

Thought that the staff who checked us in were unfriendly and not very welcoming. Also, had upgraded to diamond club, and didn’t feel as though it was worth it. Was unable to get early or late check in/out even though I had emailed hotel in advance twice (never received answer to my emails). No one told our butler that we had arrived or gave us info on how to contact them so did not even hear from them for over 24 hours. No one gave us our resort credits until I went back 2 days later and asked. Other than that, the swim up pool was great, bellhops very friendly and helpful, bars and servers were great, and the food was amazing. It was just too bad that our first impression was check in and they were not friendly or welcoming (when I stayed at this resort 3 years ago, the check in staff were very warm and welcoming).

From the time of check in to departure was a nightmare. To Initially having 3 room changes due to incorrect room , to cleanliness and horrific situation orders. To restaurant staff at hunters steakhouse being rude . To me having a drink spilled on me . To me having to request resort credits which was a condition of my booking on numerous occasions . To never receiving a final bill nor an email. This was suppose to be a vacation for my family and I but instead it was a complete nightmare. We couldn’t not wait to leave …. The royalton in Cancun is terrible .
