Nice place, but not for the faint of heart.
The hotel is hidden, tucked away through a tiny walkway. The place has charm, in a historic sort of way. The walls are leaning and the floors are crooked. There is no elevator, a note worthy of mention if you are lugging large suitcases. I should mention that staff were quick to offer a hand. The rooms are large, clean and fairly well appointed. Simple little items may be suggested, but overall a nice place and I would likely recommend it to my friends. I will say this however: It is important to note that driving to the hotel is more than a little difficult,a nd downright impossible between 10am and 5pm. This valuable information would have saved us a great deal of inconvenience. I was also puzzled that not only had the hotel neglected to provide the infomation regarding vehicle access at the time of booking, but that they had also neglected to provde direction to the nearest parking facility, which is not exactly nearby.

Hip, central, great mix of old and new!
Really glad we stayed at Judges Court. The location is optimal, being within the walls of York, and we walked everywhere including the train station when we left. The room was bigger than expected, and had great stylised décor. They did a fantastic job of keeping the history of the building (old exposed timbers etc.) while updating it with modern bathrooms and amenities. The lighting fixtures in the stairway are particularly neat and creative - I loved the one made of old crystal decanters! We found it to be great value for the money and would stay there again (and York is awesome so we do hope to return!).

Hotel way overpriced.
Hotel way overpriced - not sure how it got 4* rating. We were put in room in attic up tiny staircase with two heavy bags (overseas travellers). Room very warm - given two tiny fans which didn't cut it and absolutely no services to speak of. Very nice shower but didn't make up for all the rest. Even charged for bottled water!

Great Experience
Service was impeccable! Staff are extremely friendly & provide the highest standard of customer service; the staff was able to provide good recommendations on restaurants in the area. Rooms are a bit small but cosy & confortable. Modern bathroom. Overall, a great experience!

Okay on the surface but a mouldy interior.
My girlfriend and I booked a superior double room as pictured the room looked to have decent proportions and looked out onto the street. But upon arrival the hotel staff member on the front desk escorted us to a room in the basement. Room 1 As soon as we walked into this room the smell was overpowering with damp and mould. Upon realising that we couldn't stay in this room without becoming ill by the morning we asked the concierge if we could change rooms. The immediate answer was no until they realised that a room had been vacated due to the guest leaving because of an illness. This room was being "aired out" but was still preferable to the heavily mouldy smell of room 1 And In fairness to the concierge they showed us the room and gave us the option to stay in the new room remain in the old one or leave. It being later on in the evening we decided to take the new room. This room also had some cleanliness issues mould starting to form in the bathroom dirty & rotten window frames masked by the new shutters.
