Great reception, poor restaurant
The hotel reached out to us ahead of our stay and offered to help making reservation for meals during our stay which was very thoughtful. Reception was very friendly upon arrival and helpful. The room itself is in good size, easy to park nearby, noises from the restaurant/bar downstairs till midnight but we were prepared for it from reading other review comments. Toilet was getting a little bit 'tired' but doesn't bother us too much. Sadly we went to the restaurant for the reservation the reception had kindly made for us a week ago. The hostess placed us in the worst place of the restaurant right in front of the washroom, with a few bigger parties nearby as well so by no means there's any sort of 'social distancing' as we had around 30 people walking pass for the first 15 minutes sitting there. No reason for this table to exist to begin with especially in this sort of situation. There were other tables available when we first arrived so very odd that the hostess would place us in the worst table possible of the restaurant. We've asked to switch for another table and by then, all other tables have been taken up. Very unfortunate as we really appreciated when the reception reached out and took the extra step to take care of hotel guests and taken back by something out of her control. We left the restaurant as there's really no point to have a meal having to worry about all the people walking nearby in such close proximity.

Stay here only if you’re a heavy sleeper or take earplugs. There is a very busy bar across the ground floor, the walls in the bedrooms are paper thin, and if you have a room at the front of the hotel, the refuse collectors arrive at 5am.

Christmas in Edinburgh
Black Ivy is a beautiful boutique hotel located in a quiet neighborhood not too far from the city center. The staff is very friendly & accommodating (I casually wrote in the hotels.com check-in review that ¨I was expecting a refrigerator in the room but there was none¨ and the next day a refrigerator appeared in our room!) The bedroom is quite large & clean with a comfortable king sized bed. The bathroom is spotless. The breakfast menu is very good & during our 5 nights stay there we tried almost everything on the menu & they were all delicious. If we were ever in Edinburgh again we would definitely stay there again.
