Just a small getaway. Stayed at the Bull Inn before. Very reasonable & in a great location. Ideal for exploring Shrewsbury & nights out. Room was clean & the staff were friendly.

Think very carefully before staying here ...

If, like my husband and I, you don't know much about Shrewsbury then choosing somewhere to stay is pretty much a lottery. And it's fair to say, we lost out in this lottery. Shrewsbury's a beautiful, historical town with many interesting little streets and buildings: very picturesque. The Bull Inn is in a side street leading to one of the four main churches of the town: a good location among plenty of bars, cafés, restaurants, and a huge variety of specialist, independent and artisan shops. However, there are lots of narrow, medieval streets and protected buildings. The Bull Inn, its neighbouring hotels, bars and restaurants are in one such street. The Inn itself is a fully functioning pub with a late licence. So don't come here in the summer if you expect a quiet night's sleep. If you happen to stay in a room at the front of the building, you're going to get maximum volume from the pub below as well as the patio/terrace outside - not to mention the other establishments along the street. The single glazed windows and the narrowness of the streets, mean that the sound is incredibly obtrusive and there's not much that can be done about it. I don't recommend the room we stayed in: it had no ensuite facilities and the "private" bathroom (under inconvenient lock and key) is cramped and smells horrible (damp and poor ventilation). Having said that, the room is quite nice. There were no "services" because of the pandemic. It's value for money but not great. It's not good

No wi-fi in rooms and massive sleep deprivation

One week stay in June whilst looking for a house, so I needed wi-fi for communicating with Estate Agents, booking appointments, checking the market. etc. The Bull has 6 rooms on two floors above the bar. I stayed in two different rooms, and checked some of the others whilst house keeping were cleaning them, and there was no wi-fi in any of the rooms. The only wi-fi was on the first floor landing and in the bar. The wi-fi can be fixed, but their lack of urgency in doing so is indicative of a deeper issue. That issue is the location and bar which is being promoted as party central. During my stay I had live football on Sat night and a Live Band mid week resulting in tanked up revelers kicking off into the early hours of the morning. The pub is in a pedestrianised side street, next to another hotel and several adjacent bars and restaurants, all of whom use the street for extra open area seating. The rooms have no form of double glazing whatsoever, just sash windows, so at worst the street can have up to 100 revelers on a party night, and half that on a week night, all within a few feet of where you are sleeping. The last staff of the surrounding establishments leave about 2.30 in the morning (shouting, clattering of metal tables and chairs being moved indoors, taxis, coming and going), and then return at 8 when the process is repeated, (street furniture being dragged outside, etc), and that 5 and a half window is quiet enough to sleep in, but that's it.

    Brilliant stay, highly recommended.

Had a lovely stay at The Bull Inn, lovely characterful inn, very traditional with superb friendly service, I had my small dog with me and he was welcomed too and made a fuss of! Breakfast was lovely and plentiful, will absolutely stay again. Thank you.
