    Great atmospheric place to stay.

Not much to add about this place that hasn't already been said. It more than lived up to expectations, the service and attention to detail from the staff from check in, the bar, the restaurant would have done justice to any hotel at any price. You may well already know about the place if not check it out Youtube. Apparently no ghosts were available on the night we stayed but you might be luckier/less lucky (delete as appropriate) than we were.

Absolutely superb - the service; all the staff were smiling and helpful - the food was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. No complaints at all.

The Mermaid Inn is a beautiful, half-timbered 12th century building. My wonderful old room was wood-panelled and had a 4-poster bed. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. There was a vegan option on the bar menu, but not for breakfast or dinner.

Beautiful property, an experience rather than just somewhere to stay. All staff apart from 1 barman attentive and knowledgeable. Thrilled to be able to take our dog. Appreciate he wasn’t allowed in communal areas (such as bar/lounges) an outdoor heated seating area would have been lovely instead. Ate dinner and breakfast here, food quality and service excellent for both meals. Can’t wait to come back.

We had a lovely evening and a delicious dinner. The only criticism I have is that both the pillows on the bed were too firm for my taste. Breakfast was very good and overall we are planning to go back sometime soon.

    Thoroughly enjoyable

Loved it! Food was exceptional and the staff couldn’t do enough to help. Sitting by the fire to read my book with a cup of tea in the lounge was an absolute treat! Thanks!

While I'm glad we stayed in this beautiful and charming old building, I'm relieved that we only booked for one night. Our room (no. 23) was up in the roof space and would not be possible for elderly or disabled to access. It was also very cramped with a tiny double bed and medieval mattress and a cramped bathroom with a tiny bath - I would say that a particularly tall or large person would genuinely struggle to navigate the room. Yes it is 3 star so I don't expect anything fancy but at £120 it is undeniably poor value. If you stay, pay extra for a bigger room.
