Nice get-a-way beautiful country place

Lovely hotel in an amazing location with stunning views over the surrounding countryside. The staff here are very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. We felt very welcomed and looked after during the 3 days we stayed. The food is very good, nice choices on the menu and good quality. A bit more variety of the specials menu would have been welcomed. After 2 days it could become a bit samey. The hot breakfast choices are good and all freshly cooked. Nice selections on the buffet table as well, fresh fruit salad was particularly welcome! Good coffee and tea as well. Both our rooms were spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds. This hotel is a little bit far out, so if you want city centre then it's probably not for you. A taxi with the local company Apple costs £15 from Exeter St Davids Station or into the city centre, so not outrageous. But if you want some piece and quiet and lovely, friendly service look no further. We will be returning very soon.

Won’t be back!
Beautiful setting but hotel needs a complete refit! Tired old-fashioned decor & rooms. Arrived to find the toilet seat in our room broken. Told they were fully booked so an alternative room was not available. Instead the manager gave us a discount on our evening meal. There couldn’t have been more than 12 people in the dining room but service was SO slow. The cooked breakfast wasn’t very appetising & the table sticky. Service at breakfast was however spot on. Thank goodness we were only staying for 1 night!

Great service. Great food. Lovely surroundings
Excellent service. Through no fault of their own someone had gone through a cable in the village resulting in the internet in the area being down. I only say this in case other people staying at the same time were to give a bad review. Nothing was too much trouble, even when I asked for a second fan for the dog! (dogs very welcome, only place they can't go, like most places, is restaurant but we are outside twice and in the lounge twice all perfectly catered for) The outside of the property is beautiful too and you can see why it hosts weddings as I am sure the photos come out lovely. We were able to let the pooch off his lead to do his "thing" We didn't do anything in the immediate area, but could see there were plenty of walking options. The food also was terrific and served beautifully, I was a bit full on the second day from a very late lunch so opted for a baked potato. Even this came out as something someone took pride in preparing with a good sized salad accompaniment. Duty manager Steven / Stephen and porter Tony were especially helpful, courteous and made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Would be happy to recommend or indeed return.

Nice place but hard to reach
A clean room with friendly staff. Restaurant was slow. Location was a bear - very difficult to find and roads were typically narrow, one lane farm roads. No local amenities.
