The hotel was great and I don't think the listing really does it justice. Right next to one of Arashiyama's train stations (check which station you arrive at!) and really comfortable. A blend of traditional and modern, eastern and western. We had a large spacious room. Our only niggle was the bathroom which looked and smelled like a hospital bathroom. However, there are 5 private onsen baths (3 indoor, 2 outdoor) as well as the main public bath which is a much nicer way to wash! Very relaxing and each of the private baths had a different style. One or two of the baths could do with some maintenance, but generally we thought they were great. We tried 4 of them and had a look at the fifth. Dinner was included and it was a traditional kaiseki meal with lots of smaller courses beautifully presented. They were rather rushed out of the kitchen so we often had 2 or 3 courses piled up. It was a pretty good meal (and we were definitely well fed!) but wasn't the best kaiseki meal we experienced in Japan. These are minor niggles and we really enjoyed our stay at Arashiyama Onsen Kadensho

Great stay in Arashiyama
Rate highly, but not a luxury rating. This is a very popular onsen with local Japanese, with many young and older couples. It is not one of those "too exquisite" establishments where you fear to take a wrong step. Everybody is treated well, and the staff try their best with those needing English. Although there are no private hot spring tubs in guest rooms, there are 5 free first come first serve couples spa rooms, and of course the men and women large pools. The restaurant provides for both breakfast and dinner in the room plan, and both are plentiful and delicious. A plus is that all alcohol (beer, sake, souchou, wine) is free for dinner, a first for me in Japan. That is inside the onsen. But the main delight staying in Arashiyama is the little town, the river and its iconic bridges, and all the surrounding sights up hills, by the river, inside temples, and the bamboo forest. It is really nice to break a stay in Kyoto with 1 or 2 nights in Arashiyama.

Good location, 5 mins walk to train station, all staffs are friendly and extremely helpful. Special thanks to the concierge staffs who patiently help us to contact the delivery service team to pick up our luggage on the next day and send it back to our Osaka hotel. Nice Onsen facilities with public pool and private pool which gives flexibility for each visitors. Nice food with private room for a family of 5 for both breakfast and dinner. Room is clean, neat and well maintained. We have a great experience in our first time stay in the onsen hotel. Two thumbs up!!!! Highly recommended!
