A Week In Paradise
My friends and I had the most amazing week at Casa Tortuga. There was plenty of space for 10 of us to stay comfortable for a week. It was wonderful to be on beach and have a pool as well! Samuel was the sweetest—so welcoming and kind. Also a great cook! We all decided this place was a highlight of our trip without a doubt.

Amazing Location Beautiful Home
We spent 7 days in Casa Tortuga, the house was even more beautiful in person. We enjoyed using the kayaks and paddle boards everyday. Cooking home cooked meals in both the outdoor and indoor kitchen was great. 10 out of 10 would definitely stay here again. A special thanks to Samuel and Christina for taking such good care of the home and us during our stay. Thanks so much!

Sanctuary in Tulum
Casa Tortuga is a beautiful refuge in a gated community in Northern Tulum. It was the perfect escape that my family and I were looking for to cap off a crazy year. When considering where to rent in Tulum, we considered a large condo closer to the main hotel zone; but so glad we decided here instead. Waking and sleeping to the sound of the ocean was wonderful. Samuel and Cristina cooked wonderful meals (very affordable) and kept the house sparkling. We kayaked, explored cenotes, saw ruins, visited the hotel/restaurant walking distance up the bay, went to Xel-ha (an amazing eco waterpark 10 mins away). We did venture into some restaurants in the "Hotel Zone" - but the heavy traffic and crowds had us retreating to Casa Tortuga most of our trip. Cheryl is an amazing host that responded quickly to any small issues that arose. The house has everything you could need, including smart touches like bottle water dispensers in every room. There are 2 kitchens, an outdoor shower, and much more. The house itself is on a double lot so there is lots of frontage to the ocean to enjoy. If you're looking for a beautiful place to relax and enjoy Tulum - this is it!

Absolutely awesome!
The property was just as described. It was clean, comfortable, and spacious! Samuel and the staff went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was enjoyable without compromising our privacy. We could not have asked for a better experience. Kayaking, snorkeling, daytripping..:it was all wonderful!

Great potential but timing was off
This house is set up to be a paradise when conditions are right, but when conditions are off it can spoil the experience. The owner was very concerned with the recent influx of sargasso seaweed and the current construction next door and warned us before we came, giving us a chance to reschedule our trip. Since it wasn’t practical for us to reschedule we came anyway, and she generously offered us free arrival dinner and breakfasts for our stay. We didn’t realize that due to the outdoor living setup of the house that the stinky sargasso smell would permeate every room, including the air conditioned bedrooms. The seaweed also made it very difficult and unpleasant to enter the sea to kayak or paddle board. It made the water close to shore murky and uncomfortably warm, and the texture is like sludge. There were groups of men clearing it away most days (to no avail as the sargasso mounds were enormous) but they take it to the back of the house causing the smell to overcome the whole area. We had a joke that every time we arrived at the house we said “home sweet sargasso!!” because of the shock of smell on arrival. The construction turned a very peaceful setting into a noisy and chaotic one. The crew starts around 8am and camps out at night giving you no break from noise. As for the wonderful things about the place, Samuel, Norma, and the rest of the crew were wonderful- cooking, cleaning, and responding quickly to our every need. The owner, Cheryl, was extremely responsive, generous, and wanting to make our experience the best she could. Unfortunately she cannot control nature or her neighbors. The bay is idyllic with calm turquoise waters with very good snorkeling. I even saw a sea turtle from the paddle board. There is a beach bar a short walk away and is close to tons of cenotes, downtown Tulum and other beautiful attractions. Most of these attractions require a paid tour, but this allows preservation and maintenance of them. The pool was a godsend for our group of adults and kids, we used it for hours everyday. It is situated away from the beach so you can enjoy a sargasso free view and lovely sea breezes. There is a ton of wildlife in the area too. I advise that you talk with the owner to ensure the seaweed is gone and the construction is over. Realize that it is an outdoor living situation that allows the good and the bad into your living space. I hope we can come back someday to enjoy it under more ideal conditions.

Casa Tortuga
We wanted to love Casa Tortuga, after all we had planned this vacation for months and from all the pictures and reviews it looked exceptional. We can’t say enough good things about Samuel and Norma. Each meal and cocktail they prepared for us was amazing and their service was great. When we arrived we were expected by sea grass, as even Cancun had some. But we didn’t expect 5 feet of sea grass and the stench of rotting fish to permeate our senses. There was no way to access the water from this house. You had to walk to the other end of the beach through construction trash and sea grass past the restaurant to be able to go out into the water. You couldn’t even launch kayaks until the last day when the neighbors had a spot cleared through the swamp and finally a little one was cleared for us as well. The hammocks unusable as well because you were swaying over the mountains of rot. They attempted to remove some with wheelbarrows after we had arrived and finally brought in heavy equipment which just piled the mountains higher until our last night when they seemed to be working feverishly until 10pm for the next guests whom I guess where more important than us. Also, there is a house being built next door so the entire end of the pool and property line is covered by blue tarps. We were inundated by hammering, sawing and concrete pumping the entire length of our stay. We wish this had been disclosed before booking. We had know way of knowing as google earth photos are dated. The house was as pictured with the exception of some large red ants that seemed to enjoy the evening on the walls & all the bathrooms, I know pest control can be difficult in the tropics but it’s still disconcerting to flip your light on and see large red ants all over the wall behind your bed. The solitude of the bay could be amazing. And so could this house. We knew there was a real possibility of sea grass we had no idea that it was going to ruin our stay. We are seasoned VRBO renters. We understand weather issues and somethings are out of the owners control. However there is an owners forum so I know the construction was known and I wish we had been warned. And perhaps the sea grass removal could have been worked on prior to our arrival.

Family get together
The house accommodated our family well. The kitchen was spacious and made meal prep easy. We lived the night Samuel and Norma cooked for us. They were there every day to clean the pool and house. Our grandchildren loved the pool and the grownups enjoyed the kayaks and paddle boards. We highly recommend Casa Tortuga.

Loved Casa Tortuga!
We had 4 small families stay at this home and we all loved it! Samual and Norma cooked for us 2 night and it was amazing! The pictures don’t do this place justice. We had an amazing week just wished it could’ve been longer. Would definitely recommend this place.
