We loved the area but couldn't get in to see Poas volcano so that was a little disappointing. Gorgeous gardens and spot. We visited La Paz waterfalls and it was beautiful but quite expensive.

We could sit and watch the hummingbirds feeding outside our window all day! The furniture isn’t very comfy, and the stairs up to the bedroom are steep, but everything else was great! Love the flowers all over the property! The restaurant was very good. Hubby loved his trout!!

Villa Calas is a lovely little rustic, boutique hotel near the base of Volcano Poas. I have worked in tourism here in Costa Rica for well over 10 years and I keep coming back at least once a year to escape for the weekend. Very cozy.

    Lovely Clean Cabin Stay

We loved staying here. The standard cabin was very comfortable and had plenty of space. It had a real wood fireplace with wood for us to use. The bathroom was a good size. There was a TV with lots of cable channels. The whole place was very clean. The staff was also incredibly friendly and helpful, and stayed open late to accommodate us for dinner at the property’s restaurant. The food was very, very good. The property has its own trails going through cow pastures which we very much enjoyed walking before dinner. We were able to park our car right by our cabin. The only thing to ask about is that our cabin had unreliable internet connection. We had great WiFi in the lobby and restaurant - our cabin was just a bit far for the signal to reach.

When you drive up to this hotel, you see cute cottages and a very well maintained property. The grounds are lush and they even have a playground and small animal cage - for peacocks and chickens. The receptionist spoke very little English but was very nice. The villas are up a bit but you can drive and park right at the entrance. There are hummingbird feeders on each porch and we saw birds from the inside window. Amazing. There is a pretty fire place in each cabin and a large bed. The bathroom is not large but adequate. They provide a small bottle of shampoo/conditioner but bringing your own would be a suggestion. There is a coffee machine with coffee and tea. We gathered with our family, made tea and lit the fire place in the evening. It was very cozy and relaxing. There are a few issues that would make this place much better - the hot water is almost non-existent. I took a shower with only the hot water and it was barely warm. The towels are pretty small but adequate. Also they give you a small area heater and it was pretty cold in the nighttime. Throughout the night we heard roaring winds!crazy! We woke to a temp of 12 degrees. Luckily the blankets were sufficient to keep us warm while sleeping but it was fun after a cool shower! Also beware the plumbing. It didn’t take much to clog the toilet. Breakfast started at 7:30 and the service and food was good. Basic menu but what else do you need. The waiter Hector was really very nice and he helped us get tickets to see the
