At the end of a 2 week trip, and having just returned from a 3 day bus trip to the Highlands, we wished to have a comfortable weekend in Edinburgh. Freya met us at the desk, and announced we had been upgraded from the 2nd floor to a 4th floor apartment. She also made sure we were aware of the features of the hotel and accommodations as she saw us in to our room. Our room in the former bank building featured a 20’ ceiling and15’ windows, or so it seemed. The master bedroom and bath were in the loft. The second bathroom, well appointed compact kitchen and second bathroom were on the main floor, which also featured a dining table for six, and a pull out sectional sofa bed in the living room area. An Extremely comfortable living quarters. On the far side of our floor, the lounge/restaurant provided a delicious Fathers Day breakfast, and a great view of St. Andrews Square. Only a few minutes walk from Edinburgh Waverley train station, it was a great location to explore New Town and Old Town.

Beautiful hotel is nestled in a little square adjacent to the Royal Mile. Location is GREAT: the Playhouse, Royal Mile attractions, shopping & restaurants are all within easy walking distance. Grocery store, several restaurants & shops literally within steps of the hotel. We booked a "family apartment" with 2 king beds. Not quite as it appeared in photos but nice. Suite was an open plan so you enter a room that has been partitioned into a bedroom & living room. The bed is a true king (American size king). Next to the bed is a small galley style kitchen. It has a stove with an oven that doubles as a microwave and convection oven, dishwasher & even a small laundry machine (it works brilliantly as a washer but the dryer took HOURS and our things never did really get fully dry-could have been "user error" tho', lol) Bathroom is next to kitchen and directly above bathroom is a loft with a large bed. Bed is on the floor. Basically, you have to climb very steep stairs and when you get to the top, it's pretty much all bed. There is a short, half wall next to the stairs and over the kitchen so that can be used as a ledge if you're very careful. Not much room otherwise. You would NOT want to try to get a heavy suitcase up there. But beds were comfy. Very small closet with safe. Free WiFi, flatscreen tv, no CNN International. Room service very pricey with limited hours. Two elevators, big enough for luggage. Staff were very friendly & helpful. Would definitely stay again!

      Great hotel.

Hotel was in a really good location for everything, the decor was beautiful, staff were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and polite. We stayed 3 nights, room was not serviced at all in this time, but this was our fault as we didn't realise until after the 2nd night, that we had to put a sign on the door handle in order for this to happen, however we did ask at reception for it to be done, and it still didn't happen,it wasn't a major issue to us, and wouldn't stop us returning, but a little disappointing. On the morning of our check out,the fire alarms went off and a full evacuation took place, understandably alarming for staff and guests alike, however, I felt it was disorganised, there didn't appear to be a lot of knowledge of procedure for this situation, guests were asking each other if it was a drill or real, and there seemed to be no urgency in getting people out, once outside the building, the staff seemed to know and have a designated area to be,but guests were dotted about and some wandered off altogether. I now know it was a small fire and dealt with very quickly, but at the time,we had no idea, and i was left wondering, had it been worse, how would people have been accounted for. To sum up, we had an amazing stay,an amazing hotel,in an amazing city,we would recommend it and definitely stay again,my only gripe is I think communication could be better, with regard the room servicing, and a sort of tannoy stating "this is not a drill-get out"! Apps are useful, but can't replace humans....

Comfortable stay after being in hotels for weeks.

The off property public parking situation wasn’t great, I couldn’t find the garage they spoke of when I called, so chose one we found seemingly nearby. Turns out if you are trying to leave before 8am, the elevators don’t work and you have to haul all your heavy luggage down to -4 which was 8 flights of stairs. I should have called the hotel back and asked for better directions to find the one they suggested. I spent £22 a night at the Omni parking. Anyway, the hotel had a grand look & a great location. My only issues are we had zero ability to control the temperature so it was warm outside when we arrived at 3pm, they had cracked the windows for us, however it was freezing when we returned that evening & we had no way to warm back up so just layered up our clothes with the robes they provide. We chose a 2 bedroom - which had a master like room and a smaller room. It was comfortable for the 3 of us and even though we aren’t milk drinkers I thought it was a nice touch to leave milk in the fridge for our tea (had I known I would have requested nondairy milk). The only other thing I would say is, after spending 2 weeks hopping hotels & needing laundry facilities I was looking forward to this stay, but the laundry machine is very tricky I had to look up a manual online to use & it still was 4+ hours per load, so we wasted a lot of time on it. If I ever find myself visiting Edinburgh again I would stay here, we didn’t try the food on property.

It was our second visit to Cheval, The Edinburgh Grand and it was as good as the first. It was my partners birthday and she received a complimentary bottle of prosecco, chocolates and a card (nice touch). The location is perfect and the staff are very friendly. We'll be back!! 👍

The Cheval Edinburgh Grand is a gorgeous hotel, centrally located for easy access to all the sites. The staff are caring and helpful. Anna was especially helpful. We had to move several times because the hotel was busy during the fringe festival. But we ended up in the penthouse suite, which was unbelievably gorgeous! I could live there. We enjoyed the views from the penthouse deck. The bathrooms were wonderful and spa like, and we could spread out and work. Before the penthouse, we were in a 2 bedroom overlooking the square. It was so fun to watch the film festival at st Andrews square from our room. Highly recommend this hotel!
