Wonderful, quirky place.
This is a lovely place to stay. It is right in the heart of the old town, surrounded by bars and restaurants and very close to the malecon and the water. The only possible down side are the perilously steep stairs up to the roof terrace, and the un-bannistered steps up to the bathroom in some of the rooms. Not for the wonky of foot!

Thief in paradise
The maid cleaned my room and my earrings were missing upon my arrival back to the room. The stories started and then later that night after 12pm I complained more and then mysteriously one earring came up but not the other. The maid was never available and then the guy that found it wasn’t seen anymore afterwards.

Home away from Home
The people of Havana including that staff of Havana Vieja 55 were some of the most freindly and helpful I have ever encounter in my travels. Above and beyond. The location is in my opinion one of the better places with easy access to everything. It provides almost every service imaginable and if not they will find it for you. I highly recommend staying here and when I return to Havana I will be as well...

Great place, amazing location,BIG BUT!!!
Pros: Great place with amazing location. Art gallery vibes & nice rooftop. 24hr reception & free welcome drinks. Higher end costs as it is a boutique hotel. Cons: Hotels.com did not allow me to contact the property via the site/email, so i had to search for their contact elsewhere which was v inconvenient. I informed the owner we would arrive late (23:45 flight from Toronto), he replied no problem as they have 24hr reception. Upon our arrival, they had “bad news” as we didn’t inform them we were coming late, so they had works done to our room & had no other available rooms! We had already prepaid for our entire stay & it was already 1.30AM! I even informed the owner as I previously mentioned! They put us up in a casa next door which was ok when exhausted, but shower was non-existent, no hot water & definitely not the same price point! Next morning we checked back in & they upgraded us- room was nice but there is no door/cover separating the bathroom & sitting on the toilet was visible to the entire room, which was incredibly awkward! But the worst of all was the noise! They were doing works to their entire ground floor the whole time we were there around the clock, starting as early as 6am to late hours! Works using heavy machinery with no heads up at all- awful! It’s a shame because Habana Vieja 55 is actually a very nice place, but the higher price point you pay & then all the inconveniences we experienced during our stay was not worth it at all.

Take this OFF Hotels.com!!!!
Don't do it! I had booked this for a couple of my most valued clients, and it was their introduction to Havana. I am all for local charm and funky buildings, but this one takes the cake! My clients got here and not only was the place under some form of messy construction, the staff was unbelievably rude and didn't even apologize for the mess, no help with luggage. They didn't even care! No windows in the rooms, so if you haven't seen it, you would likely get into a room without windows. This place shouldn't be on hotels.com - it's not a hotel!

For Cuba this is one of the best places to stay
Great location, and a great hotel for Cuba! The room is a little damp as it doesn’t have any windows, but overall I enjoyed my stay! Staff are really friendly and helpful and a lovely rooftop bar

Modern and comfortable
Great boutique hotel in the historic part of Havana. The rooms and common areas are renovated and modern compared to nearby accommodation. This is certainly reflected by the cost per night. The welcome cocktail for the rooftop bar was a nice touch. The room was comfortable albeit small. I had one large suitcase which was fine but if you're sharing your room and both have suitcases then you'll need to book the larger rooms. Rooms are accessed by a narrow staircase only. The receptionist, Franky, was kind enough to help me out. There's a safe but I couldn't use it as it wouldn't unlock even with the key. A/C's welcome because the windows open into the hall which comprises privacy a bit. It only had high fan speed though. Great WiFi signal which seems to be turned off at around midnight and turned back on again in the early morning. Caution: you're charged to access their WiFi even thought the internet minutes are purchased externally! Rather cheeky given that this isn't a cheap place to stay. Can you stay somewhere cheaper? Sure. Will it be as modern? Probably not. Overall I was very comfortable and felt safe. The hotel was in a great location and we pretty much walked everywhere we wanted to go.

A Gem in Old Havana - So Lucky!
Hostal Habana Vieja 55 is more than a typical hostal. It should be classified as a boutique hotel because it offers 24 hour front desk services. The property is centrally located to all the sights in Old Havana. Restaurants and taxis are just steps away from the property. Habana Vieja 55's front desk staff members were extremely, and I mean extremely, professional, friendly, courteous and helpful. Our room was ready for us when we arrived. Free chocolates and a coupon for a free drink were provided to us upon check-in. The rooms are all private and there's a restaurant on premises. Habana Vieja 55 staff ensured our room was exceptionally clean.
