    Nicest Hotel Staff!!!

The hotel staff were incredibly helpful and kind!! And they arranged a taxi for us back to the airport, we were 8 people and it saved us $15 over taking two separate cabs!! Get them to arrange a taxi/shuttle pickup for you. The pool was great...clean and refreshing. Lots of hot water for the showers!! There was air conditioning in the rooms as well as a ceiling fan.The neighborhood seemed a bit 'urban' but everyone was friendly and we felt safe enough and had no trouble from the locals. It was a 15 minute walk to the market downtown, and there was a very nice grocery store only a five minute walk away. I would stay here again!!

Great layover spot close to the ferry.

We just needed a place to stay after our flight arrived at night before we were headed to other islands the next day. Staff is super friendly and helpful. 10 min walking to shops by the harbor. Breakfast was a nice, simple start to the day. If your expectations are a clean place to shower and crash as a layover, it's great. About 15 min from the airport via taxi and really close to the ferry which is exactly what we needed. If you have large luggage, I don't think you'll want to walk to the ferry though.

    This was so so.

The room is very small and lots of mosquitos in room. I got more than 10 last night. But, the staff was very kind and good person. Also, price was reasonable compared to other hotels. I would recommend here, but don’t expect other US hotel’s appearance. You’ll be totally disappointed. The breakfast was also nice :)

    Good location near the harbor

It was clean and friendly and a place to stay overnight before going to the airport in the morning. Taxi was called when we needed to go out.

Staff were there to greet us even though we arrived close to 10 PM. A very basic place but staff were very nice. It is really helpful if someone can speak French to communicate with the staff. We met other traveleres because there is a large common area to share breakfast. Only problem is the noise, a lot of roosters and barking dogs.

Good lodge in a poor neighborhood

Bottom Line Up Front: Ahitea Lodge is a decent place to stay if you're in Papeete for a night. If you're on Tahiti for an extended stay be warned that this place is in the middle of a bad neighborhood. I stayed at Ahitea Lodge because it was low cost and had decent reviews. The lodge itself lived up to expectations. The continental breakfast was enjoyable. It was basically half of a baguette with jam and butter, coffee, and juice. The rooms were clean and had AC, and the bed was comfortable enough. Having to use a shared bathroom was only a minor inconvenience once, but otherwise not a problem. The operators unfortunately do not speak much English. There is no place to park a rental car as far as I can tell. The neighborhood sucks. I wanted to experience Tahiti without breaking the bank. I figured I could walk around the closer parts of Papeete, enjoy whatever was nearby, and pay for excursions as necessary. The walking around part was not fun. Ahitea Lodge is buried deep in a residential zone, and the nearest intersection leading out is constantly occupied by groups of tough guys who I was later informed were "just" drug dealers. I had to leave the lodge to get food, and walking through that neighborhood made me nervous, especially with all the stares I got. I was never out after dark. When it came time to checkout I got a cab, even though the dock is only 4 blocks away. If you want to stay someplace where you are free to ramble about I recommend staying someplace else.
