Reached by a hike through beautiful woodland, Pewit’s Nest Gorge is one of the standout attractions of the area. Over many years, Skillet Creek has cut its way through the rock to form a stunning gorge, complete with beautiful waterfalls to admire. Ochsner Zoo is another fantastic place to visit, and is completely free of charge. When it first opened in 1926, it was home to just two bear cubs. Now however you can see 17 different species of animal, including the Canada Lynx, wolves, monkeys, bears, and owls. It’s great for visitors of all ages, and you can also feed the animals (but only from the zoo’s food dispensers!). If you’re feeling lucky, then you should pay a visit to the Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells casino, which has over 1,700 slot machines, card games, bingo, and more.

West Baraboo is a great destination for families. The surrounding countryside provides plenty of opportunity to enjoy nature. The Baraboo Riverwalk’s paved trail makes it great for children, and walking alongside the river you’re guaranteed to spot lots of interesting wildlife. How to get to West Baraboo


Arriving by car is probably the easiest way to travel to West Baraboo. You can drive from Madison in less than an hour on Highway 12, or you can get to West Baraboo in less than 2 hours from Milwaukee when you take Interstate 94. If you’re traveling from La Crosse, then you can reach West Baraboo in about an hour and a half if you take Interstate 90. You could also take a bus to neighboring Baraboo from many towns, including Madison and Milwaukee. Alternatively, the Amtrak station in nearby Wisconsin Dells is served by the Empire Builder line, connecting to cities across the United States.
