Guanacaste Hotels

With shimmering, crystal clear coastlines that stretch for miles, exotic and unique forests, and luxurious pale beaches, Guanacaste is without doubt a paradise for summer vacationers. In addition to the sun baked natural surroundings, you'll find a host of vibrant cities bursting to the brim with nightlife, culture, and cuisine. Given the region is famous for its cattle rearing, you won't want to miss out on some of the succulent local beef either.

Things to see

If you're heading into the Guanacaste region, then chances are you'll be looking to catch some rays on one of the many pristine, soft sanded beaches. While there certainly is plenty of choice, Samara Beach is without doubt one of the most spectacular. The picture prefect beach is everything a tropical fantasy should be, with gently swaying palms, sweeping white sands, and glittering, clear ocean waters. Whether you're with the kids or simply enjoying a quiet break, hours will fly by as you splash and soak up the sun. In the north of the region, you'll find the aptly named Flamingo Beach, which delivers cushion soft sands and elegant coastline with its own unique twist – flocks of vibrant pink flamingoes that might well join you for a dip in the ocean. If you've always wanted to try your hand at surfing the crashing waves, then the Safari Surf School offers some great packages to get you riding the tube like a master, as well as a peaceful yoga retreat.

Hotels in Guanacaste

There's a huge selection of hotels in Guanacaste to choose from, including luxury hotels, ecological retreats, and everything in-between. A large amount of Guanacaste hotels are located close to the balmy coastal waters and beaches too, so you'll never have too far to travel for a day of lounging in the sun. Most hotels also offer a complimentary continental breakfast, and there's nothing better than starting the day off with a selection of fresh, zingy local fruits. If you can't resist making your friends and family envious, then you can also use the free wireless internet access to upload some panoramic photos before taking a dip in the luxurious pool.

Where to stay

Heading south to Samara means you'll have access to some of the most stunning coastline and beaches in the region, and there's also plenty of nightlife and fresh, spicy local cuisine to enjoy here, too. Playa Pelada is the best choice if you're planning on spending as much time as possible surfing, especially if you're a beginner, as the Safari Surf Scholl is located here. Playa Flamingo or Brasilito are located a little further north, and offer some excellent beaches and resorts as well, and couples might enjoy the slightly quieter nature of Brasilito in particular.

How to get to Guanacaste

There's a growing number of international flights that head directly to the region's main airport, located in the city of Liberia. From here, you'll be only a few hours away from any major part of the coastline, and you can reach you particular destination by car or local domestic flight, depending on where you're staying. Once at your accommodation, most cities and coastal resorts in the region are small enough to walk around comfortably, especially if you're planning on spending most of your time on the beach. That said, hiring a car also gives you access to the lush national parks inland.
