The american inn is a simple, modest, cinderblock building that's been decorated with a down-home touch that speaks to pride in the area, and a willingness to support other businesses in this small town. From the wagon wheels under the main front arch, to the creative cattle-brand artwork in the halls, it feels like there's more to this place than just a clean, well-run business to these folks.
The rooms were clean, and everything in our room looked to be custom-built by someone who knows their way around some carpentry -- simple, but comfortable and built to last. The usual amenities were there (fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and you can have trouble finding those in properties that cost way more).
The decor was definitely a page from the owner's own book, the classic El Camino out front and the other vintage project cars just show a bunch of style and a bit of wry humor.
I'll also call out that the mattresses had nice, zippered protectors on them, and it was all hardwood floors, both of which go a long way in making me feel like the owner cares.
I'd stay at this place over one of the big chains any time.
