The stairs leading up to the birch cabin we stayed in were leaning and in need of repair. Our 5 year old tripped and hurt her shin pretty bad because of the offset stairs, the couch in the cabin was ripped up and stained with who knows what, the couch cover looked like it hadn't been washed. The bathroom shower had brown spots on the walls and smelled of urine. The shower had black mold spots on the ceiling. The towels and rags in the kitchen smelled terrible after one use, as if they had not been properly cleaned. The property did not have running water when we arrived but someone was filling the well with outsourced water when we showed up so that wasn't so bad. The hot tub advertised was too smelly to get into. The property was kind of overgrown with weeds in the common areas so we did get bit up by bugs. As a result we felt uncomfortable, spent most of our time away from the cabin, and left at 5:30 the next morning.
We showed up on Friday night and not a soul was there. We tried to text the number and call the number and was unable to reach anybody. However, this lovely lady showed up just by chance. I had booked the wrong night! She said itâs clean and itâs ready for you to go, but thatâs why there was no email with check-in instructions. We had two teenagers so the bunkbeds were great cause they didnât have to sleep together! Place was very clean! We truly appreciate them working with us!
Everything was great. Very very clean and just the right size for our family. Our cabin only had a bath option - no shower, which would have been nice to know but wasnt that big of a deal. Coffee shop was great and the property was very conveniently located.
We had an excellent stay. All our needs were met quickly and we would definitely stay again. I will say it may not be everyoneâs cup of tea but for us it was perfect!
We stayed 2 nights in Cedar cabin. It was very clean. The gas fireplace was perfect for the cooler evenings. Office was closed both days we were there, but cafe was open for great coffee selection on our departing morning. Have never picked up our key for checkin that was just tacked to a bulletin board outside office. Also have never been told to take bedding off beds, drive all used towels in basket to office window, and bag all trash and drive to dumpster near office. Great location, but very close to highway for traffic noise. Very focused on cleanliness with the full page check out instructions.
Nice rustic cabin just outside of hill city. This is an old cabin attached to the office/coffee shop. Never heard any noise from inside the shop. Because the cabin is very old it is not level inside. Also there is no separate air conditioning from the shop and the cabin, if you need it on you have to call. We just left the door open until bed and that helped cool it off. Has a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot which was more than enpugh for us. Bed comfortable. If you are there make sure and stop and get coffee from the Perky Pines coffee shop, great coffee.
Very family friendly felt like home we had pots and pans our own grill full size fridge it was close to everything the coffee shop was amazing the lady there is so nice we enjoyed our stay !!
Wasnât a cabin but a room with a bath tied to the side of the lodge. The floor sloped so bad when I put my little suitcase down in rolled. Close to the street so very noisy especially with Sturgis bike week going on. The owners closed up the lodge for the week so nothing was available to buy. They had a grill on the outside with some charcoal but it wasnât clean, still had the old charcoal in it.
Cabin was nice. No a/c. The parking isnât very good for motorcycles. Didnât really have any communication with staff, but we had everything we needed for our stay.
Really cute cottage. Just like staying at grandmaâs house. Very clean and the owner was very kind and responsive. A little run down, but kinda added to the charm. Would stay again.
Cabin 2
We stayed in cabin 2 for 2 nights while visiting Custer.
The cabin is located right next to the busy highway and traffic is loud - not relaxing to sit outside at anytime.
The cabin itself is ok. No AC, only loud box fans. We slept on the futon in the living room area because we couldnt find any plug ins in the bedroom part for the box fan....
Pillows were very flat.
I dont know if the cabin is being run by a generator? There was a persistent humming or vibration that we couldnt find where it was coming from.
All of this and they want you to clean the cabin before you leave. I dont mind doing my own dishes, but sweeping the floor, taking out the trash, taking our towels to wherever they need to go should not be the job of your guests. Especially for what we paid to stay there.
There is a number you can call or text if you have any issues and the responses from that person did not seem as though they really wanted to be assisting you or answering questions.
It wasnt the worst stay ever, but there is no reason we would ever come back given how many other options there are in the Black Hills area.
