A Charming Guesthouse in Melville!

Corlien and Pierre were very hospitable and friendly hosts. They have an excellent staff who work hard to ensure one's comfort (kudos to Patrick, Pretty and Patience!). The breakfasts were delicious...the menu extensive. As a cat lover, the very lovable Cesar made the environment like home!

Friendly staff and great service

Overall my stay here was very pleasant. The staff were warm and welcoming and took extra care to arrange for a very early morning departure and even made sure that I had breakfast before I left. The room was spacious with separate bathroom and closet areas. My one complaint is that the room was quite chilly with no heat and my visit was in the winter. Electric blankets are provided for the bed at night but, the room itself was too cold to comfortably relax in during the evening. (I understand that central heat is not common in SA but, a few small space heaters available to guests who request them would have made my stay a 5/5.)

We loved it. Everyone is very friendly, the breakfasts are excellent and it is close to shops and restaurants in Melville which is a great area, Also, Jacob, the driver and tour guide is affiliated with the guest house is great as well.

Lovely place, warm staff

We had a lovely stay at Ginnegaap. The staff and owner were so nice and attentive to our needs, even when we asked for a cab arrangement after reception had closed. The room has everything you need, including a huge bed, a safe deposit box, a nice bathroom with amenities, a flat screen TV, an iron, and even an emergency button just in case. Breakfast was big and has a lot of options, and if you have to leave before breakfast time (like we did) they can prepare one for you the day before so you don't miss out on that as well. Overall, a wonderful place.

Quaint residence near hip area.

The owner and staff were very friendly. They helped organize a day tour of Johannesburg which is key for this city. Great breakfast, much more than we expected from a hotel in this price range. Room was modest but clean and had everything we needed. I would recommend this place as it gives you a chance to also explore the Melville neighborhood, which is a nice diverse area and close to everything.

Friendly, secure and a great location!

This Bed & Breakfast is very good value for money. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. The staff is very willing to please the guests. The breakfast is lovely, and you can pretty much have breakfast "your way". The location is good for Melville, and there is a nice little Italian restaurant a couple of blocks away, walking distance. If you are a light sleeper, then request the double digit rooms. I had room 1 and while it's a nice room, it's a the front of the house, and thus, noisy. I will return to this B&B.

Work on the small details.

The guesthouse is in a safe, middle class suburb with local cafes & restaurants in easy walking distance. The room was small but well appointed and the breakfast was OK but only offered one piece of toast per person. We had difficulties with wifi and needed to call them in to get the TV working. Our biggest issue was their pick up from the airport when the driver expected us to lift our luggage into the back of a van.

Lovely guesthouse in a safe and friendly area.

Really enjoyed our time at Ginnegaap! Really great experience from the initial welcome to the gorgeous breakfast and the excellent advice from the owner, Corlien, and her staff. As it was cold at night during our winter visit, the radiators and electric blankets were a godsend as well as extra blankets should they be needed. Really safe area to walk up to the restaurants and bars. And the breakfast is the best ever!! Thanks again for a super introduction to South Africa!!

I spent a couple nights at Ginnegaap before my flight back to the states. The location in Melville was great; easy walking to dining, galleries, shops and funky little bars on 7th St (Ave?). Patrick was a great host and the entire staff very friendly and accommodating. I'd requested a tub in the bathroom and was disappointed that it was very small, old... South Africa spoiled me with large, roomy bath tubs. This was not one of those...
