As usual, the staff was very kind and accommodating. they're working twice as hard because now that the Holiday Inn has taken over. there's half the amount of staff that there used to be to care for the guests. they no longer have a buffet every night, which was easy for those of us bringing children. It's hard to find things on a regular dinner menu at a restaurant for kids. There was only 2 people to cover the entire large pool to serve drinks pool side. So most times you had to go and get your own drink if you wanted one, Because those servers also served food! This was totally inappropriate for the venue and the amount of clientele. there have been no updates to the facility that I could see so it was a little disheartening that so many of the qualities that we enjoyed about going to Royal Sands are no longer there. You couple that with the horrible seaweed problem on the beaches where it's impossible to get in to the ocean, and there is simply no reason to return. Makes me very sad because this was one of our favorite places.!

Beautiful property on a beautiful beach. The waves right in front of the hotel were consistently good for riding. The marina at the hotel was out, but the sister property had a marina available. We did play pickle ball and spike ball on site and free. There were boogie board available one site for a charge.

Honestly cant fathom why the reviews are so high for this place online. I would avoid it. Rooms are in bad need of updating, especially the bathrooms. Navigating the restaurants is beyond frustrating. They give timeshare owners priority for reservations, so literally every time we tried to make a reservation (always between 8 am and 9 am) we were told there was no availability. Finally had to threaten a conplaint higher up the chain to get into a restaurant and when we were there it wasn't even busy. The food was what you'd expect from an AI. Barely acceptable. Was successful getting reservations twice in a week's stay. We ended up going outside of the resort a couple times just so we weren't stuck with buffet food getting soggy in warmer trays every night. There are also surcharges for anything beyond nasty drip coffee, beer or watered down well drinks. All inclusive is definitely a misnomer. Likely to take up the issue with Holiday Inn who owns the resort, which we found out on arrival, and explains a lot. Was not worth the $700 a night we paid for our family of five. Housekeeping was consisent and the grounds were well maintained. Staff was friendly.

The Sands is mostly Time Share, one of the better time Shares. The crowd is older. Beach is great. Having a one bedroom instead of a small hotel room is a big plus. The gym is good but there are no gym classes except for 8am yoga. Many fewer activities than most hotels in Cancun. Buffet and drinks are below average

First time all inclusive holiday, so we wondered: Is tipping expected on every bill? How much is a reasonable tip at an all inclusive? For meals? Drinks? Maids? Etc. It would be good to have suggested tipping ranges for each. The resort was lovely and food generally good. Service was always top notch. Unfortunately we were there during a very rainy cool week and there wasn't much to do.

Limited dining, virtually no entertainment. They assign you a personal "concierge", who suppose to help you book your restaurants every day. But, essentially, it is a time share salesman who uses every interaction opportunity to talk you into the presentation. If you say no to time share presentation, you will not get your desired dinner times. Expect to eat your dinner either super early, like 5pm or super late, like 9pm, which is very inconvenient especially if you travel with children. Food was just ok. Got food poisoning from one of the restaurants. Will never be back.
