The owner and host of Sant'Andrea, Arema, genuinely loves sharing his home and his city. Add to that, the location, the bed quality, the great breakfast, the shared living and dining area, and you have a recipe for a delightful visit.
The B&B is in a flat in a 16th century building. There is no elevator, but Aremus helped lug our suitcases up the one flight. The living and dining area have some frescoes which the owner managed to save, and which contribute to an authentic feel.
There are a total of 3 bedrooms with ensuite baths, one of which is the host’s although is out and about most of the time. Of the 2 available bedrooms, we had the smaller one, but it was more than adequate. Both rooms have windows looking out onto the neighborhood.
Bathrooms generally run on the small side in Italy, also, but at least we had a decent size shower in ours. Plenty of hot water and good pressure. There is a free computer and Wi-Fi for guest’s use. Breakfast was more than the usual fare—we had fruit, meat, cheese, and yogurt offered in addition to the breads and cornetti (Italian-style croissant, but so much better!).
After we left Orvietto, we stayed in a 4-star hotel, but we preferred Sant’Andrea! Will definitely stay there next time we’re in Orvietto.
