Convenient location
Overnight stay whilst visiting friends. The hotel is opposite the castle and convenient for the centre of Windsor. The room was clean and comfortable though a little worn. There are no food facilities but there are plenty of eating places within a short walk. The reception staff were helpful and the early bag drop was very useful. Pricing is very reasonable. There is no on site parking but plenty of choice within 10 minutes walk.

Would stay again but please clean the windows!
The executive double room was massive and decent value for money for Windsor. A few other reviewers have mentioned cleanliness, it’s not awful but just little things that you’d think would be part of the cleaners check list. Our room had a large amount of mould on the window sil which would only take a minute to clean off. Other than that the room was nice Some parts of the hotel would benefit from a little makeover but it’s generally a solid 4/5, especially for a the money. I’d definitely come back again. Looks like they’re doing renovations so they’re probably going to improve it Right opposite the castle and close to bars and restaurants

Would recommend
I read a lot of poor reviews of this place but was pleasantly surprised. The check in was easy, location ideal for central town, and the room was clean and tidy with everything I needed. Obly downside was my room had no radiators, but had one electric heater. The room was a tad cold but I didn't spend long in the room. Overall a good quick stay and no issues.

A pleasant stay
It was a pleasant stay. There were scaffolding for renovation around the hotel at the time of the stay so a cheaper price. Very clean and modern, the heating rack in the bathroom was on, although the heater beside the bed was not working. I presume was because it was against the bed and the curtains. Other than this, everything else was good.

Avoid this hotel. Don’t be tempted by the low rate. Really. This was genuinely the worst night away we have had for many years. 30 years ago, I remember The Harte and Garter Hotel as a smart, up-market establishment. Not any longer. The fabric and decor of the building is in a shocking state of disrepair. Peeling paint, swollen and cracked woodwork, ragged and worn carpets, DIY bodge jobs wherever you look. The fire alarm outside our room was missing its inner workings, despite retaining its signage and instructions. The radiator in our room was not working and the room cold - instead, we were supplied with a cheap electric space heater. The advertised “double-bed” was hilariously narrow and the mattress so old, worn and without support that we hardly slept… and checked out early. Sadly, today’s Harte and Garter is an utter disgrace. If the management had any integrity they would close immediately and not open until the building was renovated from top to bottom by honest crafts-people. Dr Paul Matts

6/10 Good

Disappointed as I paid for a luxury room upgrade.. a double room which was two single beds pushed together and also a single bed o its own.. when painting a room removing the painting on the wall really helps so you don’t get paint all over the frame. Lamps looks like something from A charity shop which were broken Reception guy just gave me the card to my room and didn’t confirm my name or details so could have been anyone. Ordered room service at 23.30 which never arrived and had a letter under my door to apologise and waiting a refund.. site needs updating, bedrooms need to be up to standard as it was ok but nothing to right home about.. also was nice to sit on the loo and look at the castle and see the tourists.. window speckles would have been an idea

It is under renovation but still lovely, we had the castle outside our window and loved seeing the light projector display. Could watch the change of guard from our bedroom if we wished. Staff were very friendly and helpful, room had everything we needed. Perfect location. Parking garage under 1/3 mile walk mainly through traffic free high street - prepay online.

One of the windows was permanently open and the other was actually missing, If it were not for the secondary glazing it would have rained into the room. Double bed was two single mattresses, one of which was only slightly less uncomfortable than the other. The shower could best be described as a tap on the wall - either the shower head is missing or the water pressure was low.

Well located hotel with old world charm
Room was lovely; spacious and clean. The hotel decor is a little dated, but well maintained and stylish. Very conveniently located in Windsor, close to castle, shops and restaurants. Check-in took some time because my booking was not on the hotel's system.

Lovely property centred in the heart of Windsor and accessible transport options on the doorstep. Unfortunately the whole building was surrounded by scaffolding, not sure what work was going on. The staff polite and courteous. Only downside cold water shower😢
