Friendly staff, decent prices especially for the area and time of year. No good protein choices for breakfast - challenging for a diabetic (but im mostly prepared for that). Enjoyed the back patio and views. We will keep this hotel in mind for future trips.
The people were very friendly and helpful. The building itself is older and is need of repair (roof leak) and general upkeep. Needs a good carpet cleaning. I was disappointed to find that there isn't an elevator, but it was only one flight of stairs. It would of been more of an issue if I was alone. There was a musty smell when first entering the room, and I was bummed to find the room had no AC, but they supplied a box fan for the window though one window did not have a screen. The fan was necessary to keep comfortable. Also, disappointed the room lacked a coffee maker and/or microwave. But liked that the room fridge was lager than usual; which we need. The bed was very comfortable and clean.
I can not say enough positive things about this hotel!
Monica and all of the staff were very accommodating!
Yes, itâs older. Itâs actually the oldest hotel in Grand Marais. If you are looking for a cozy place to rest your head after exploring the city or hiking the beautiful trails this is the place!
Comfy bed, great views of the lake! (Make sure to request a lake facing room)
Right dead center of the town, very walkable location!
I enjoyed the ladies at the front desk. Roo was clean, bed was great. But breakfast was all carbs and not so good. The building is falling apart. In our room we had patio furniture. Very uncomfortable! Not a place to relax. Windows had no screens to keep out the bugs. Tv was difficult. No local channels and had to have someone come put it on her netflex or we couldnt have watched tv. If you are just looking to sleep for the night and move on, it will work for you. Bed was nice
The hotel is quite run down. The hallways needed a bucket to catch rain water. The carpets are stained. The rooms are cooled with open windows, but one of our two windows labeled a bug screen.
Upon checkin we were told that there was only one key to our room because they couldnt find the other one. The room temp was 80 degrees. We tried to trun the thermostat down. That didnt work. When we asked about it we were told that it was on a boiler system and the person who know how to fix it wouldn't be there until the next day. We found a fan opened the windows one of the windows did not have a screen on it. There were 2 of us registared for the room. The room only had one chair in it. When I went to use the shower the water never got warm. The only way to get warm water in the shower was to flush the toliet. When the toliet filled up the water got cold again. We were on the second the. There was no elevator to the second floor. The ceiling was leeking by the vending machines.
The parking lot had a handicap sign but no ramp to the inside. Only steps.
When I was carrying my bags out, I was pushing the door open when I suddenly felt something nipping at my feet. The staff member said "Oh it's okay he is blind" referring to dog nipping at me yankles. Please know I am a dog person but its never okay for them to nip at anyone. I will not stay there again nor do I recommend it.
I understand weed is legal, but waking up to our whole room smelling like it made our stay less enjoyable. If it was just outside itâs one thing, but it was coming through the air vents into the room.
The ice machine was right outside our room which was annoying when trying to fall asleep.
There was also dried blood spots on the light comforter.
Other than that, the view and sounds of the waves on the shore were nice.
