The church dates from the 13th century onwards. The nave was rebuilt in 1843, and the chancel in 1873 by Fowler. The church is built from ironstone with limestone dressings, with a slate and lead roof. There is a western tower with three bells, nave with clerestory, north and south aisles, chancel and south porch. The church originally consisted of tower, nave, chancel and south aisle only, and there is no record of any restoration before 1831. The four bay south arcade is early 13th century with circular piers. The north arcade is all 19th century. The nave roof is 19th century, but incorporates 15th C. carved wooden figures to the hammer beams. The ceiling has been elaborately decorated with roundels containing paintings of Saints. The words of the Te Deum are written around the walls of the chancel at the border with the roof, and the theme of the decoration relates to the first verse of the Te Deum. There is a fine sculptured stone reredos, painted and gilded. The organ is also painted and gilded by J.G. Smyth. All fittings are 19th century apart from the 15th century octagonal font. The 2 manual organ is by Nicholson of Worcester from 1904. Photo by J.Hannan-Briggs
