I was a solo traveler staying just two nights in Auckland for an event - and it served to provide shelter and bed. It's adequate, and relatively clean and comfortable, so it is perfectly suitable for a short stay.
There are noise issues, when people are drunkenly shouting in the hall and slamming doors, so the soundproofing leaves something to be desired.
It could use a bedside lamp, and while a kettle was provided, no cups/mugs/glasses were provided, making the kettle a bit useless.
There was a shared kitchenette area, which had quite a few bugs crawling around it the night I stopped to fill my waterbottle. And the bathroom was mostly clean, but there were a few random long, dark hairs around. There is also very little counter/bench space to leave things on, especially in the bathroom and no hangars are provided, only hooks on the wall. There were a few small rust spots on the shower floor.
In saying that, if you're not after anything fancy, it will do perfectly fine for an affordable, central place to stay without any frills. If you're just after a bed for the night, it will do the job.
And the staff were very accommodating for my late check-in, which I really appreciated.
