Osaka and related destinations

Between the neon-lit Dotonbori district and majestic Osaka Castle lies a city that takes food more seriously than most nations take foreign policy. The covered arcades of Nipponbashi offer everything from manga to electronics, while locals debate which street vendor makes the definitive takoyaki. Universal Studios Japan delivers theme park thrills, but the real adventure happens at Kuromon Market where vendors slice fish with surgical precision. The Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan houses whale sharks in tanks so vast you'll question your place in the universe. After dark, join salary men unwinding over kushikatsu – deep-fried skewers that demand respect for the 'no double-dipping' rule.

Toyoko Inn Osaka Namba

10/10 Excellent
"This is a fabulous place to stay. 5-10 minutes from Namba station, Dotonburi area and the canal. Staff were fantastic, friendly and helpful especially Jerry with his local knowledge and excellent English. Being able to wash and dry a full load of clothes in an hour for 600 yen was a bonus. The room was plenty big enough with great power and wifi connections. Add in a free breakfast, coffee and cocoa machine, cold water and you have the ideal place to stay. Can’t recommend this hotel highly enough"

"Can’t beat the location! The reason for the 4 star rating for the hotel room on the 3rd floor was because of the awful smell in the bathroom which I assumed is from sewage system. I contemplated requesting a room room change but we were only there for 4 nights"

10/10 Excellent
"Great hotel next to a metro station so very easy to get around Osaka. Its in the quieter part of town, more business district but that was fine for us having been in the busier parts of Osaka. Walking distance to the castle and lots of good restaurants in walking distance to the hotel. Hotel was very clean, comfortable beds and modern facilities. Excellent value for money based on what we paid for 2 twin rooms. Can't fault the hotel, would stay again."

Hotel THE LEBEN OSAKA

Hotel THE LEBEN OSAKA

10/10 Excellent
"Amazing boutique hotel, they even had a small skincare bar downstairs which was such a great touch. The only thing we wish would’ve been better was having a small sink in the separate toilet as there is no facility of that. But that didn’t really hinder our stay there as much. Staff helped us with the luggage forwarding service too. Lovely location, 7/11 is right opposite the hotel."

Hotel Hankyu RESPIRE OSAKA

Hotel Hankyu RESPIRE OSAKA

8/10 Good
"Excellent Location, and Helpful Tips We had a very good stay at Hotel Hankyu RESPIRE Osaka and would happily return! Location: Fantastic! Hotel sits atop a huge shopping complex with easy train access, a restaurant floor with plenty of choices, and basement access to a grocery store, McDonald’s, and a pharmacy. Despite the hotel’s size, elevator waits were never over five minutes. Breakfast & Service: Good variety at breakfast of both Eastern and Western fair, with staff efficiently managing crowds. Check-in was quick, English-speaking staff were helpful, and housekeeping was excellent. The Room: Our standard double was quiet but tiny. Fitting luggage was a daily game of Tetris! Ask about luggage storage for empty bags if staying several nights. Blackout curtains were excellent, outside noise virtually nonexistent, deep tub was great for soaking. A Few Tips: Bring your own pillow! The hotel’s polyethylene-filled pillows were uncomfortable for us. We bought replacements at a nearby home store. The combo washer-dryers were small and left heavier items very damp. We used a coin laundry five minutes away by taxi and had clean, dry clothes in about 90 minutes. Bring plenty 100-yen coins. The hotel does offer a reasonable laundry service if you wanted to use that instead. Arriving before 3 p.m.? Expect a crowded lobby as guests wait for rooms. Bottom Line: Excellent location, convenient transportation, breakfast, and helpful staff make this a great Osaka base."
