Marathon disappointment

The curtains were falling off the rail, the lamps were not plugged in, the tv was falling off it's stand, the shower bracket was broken so we could not hold the shower up, they 'recommended' nobody should use the lift after 10pm as there was no staff in the hotel after that time, our room was tiny. Other than that, Tatiana on reception was very pleasant!

Conveniently located. Helpful staff. Mattress was too soft for our liking and the walls were thin causing us to ask the next room to keep the noise down but overall it was good value for money compared to other centrally located hotels.

Nice hotel in great location, friendly staff

We stayed for 2 nights at hotel sander and had a great stay. The staff were extremely helpful and provided us with fresh milk and extra tea bags for our room when we asked for them, as well as giving us information and tips on things to do. The hotel was clean and great for the price. Comfortable bed, good ensuite bathroom.

W/O Air

Amsterdam became warm and the room we stayed in had no air conditioning. They did give us a fan but all it did is blow hot air.

Never stay here!

Sewage leak from the above room that management was impartial about fixing. Staying in Amsterdam's dirtiest hostel would have been preferable. No refund given, just repeated statements that a plumber was called.

Last minute trip

This was a last minute two night trip and this hotel was at a good price and close to the trans and museums. The room was very spacious and clean. We were there during an unusual heat wave with no air conditioning so sleeping with the windows open proved to be noisy with mopeds and voices bouncing off the buildings echoing all night long.

Small nice budget hotel blocks from Museumplein

Very quiet and well-kept hotel. Polite staff. Room is basic but clean and what I asked for. Well-priced as well.

Great location near museums but disappointing room

When directed to a basement room (apparently all others booked), we were obviously disappointed but disappointment turned to despair when we opened the room door to a musty/mouldy/damp/clammy atmosphere. Needless to say, we spent only a minimal amount of time in the room that boasted a permanently locked window (probably the reason for the mustiness), a bathroom door that wouldn't close (probably swollen in the damp conditions) and a soft, saggy, worn out uncomfortable mattress that wasn't even improved upon our rotating it. Even our belongings stored in the room for the 3 days we stayed smelt stale. The person responsible for awarding the 3 star rating never stayed in the basement! Our encounters with the staff were friendly - they were the best part of the hotel. They were helpful and obliging. Our room and common spaces were as clean as they could have been but with the worn fabric of the hotel, it was never going to look sparkling. We didn't have the time to rent bicycles from the hotel, but they did offer a competitive hire service, making it more convenient option for a day hire than from establishments in the city. Overall, the whole hotel had a tired, old-fashioned feel about it but with some care to detail (and ventilation in the basement), the Sander Hotel could be quite charming. It is certainly in a lovely, safe neighbourhood.

Too far out, cleaner stole money, depressing room

This hotel is too far from the main attractions, for the price of taxis/effort it takes to get to them you may as well put it towards a closer hotel. The hotel is depressing, dark, gloomy, the cleaner stole about €60 from our room claimed it was never there.

Desperately needs renovation work...

...of course, the owner know it, but they think they can get away with it given that the location is relatively good.

Good area, needs some improvement

Wall paper and trim falling off wall. Fan in bathroom did not work. Door has to be locked from inside or outside-does not automatically lock. Very old creaky stairs. Only one (set of) outlet in the room. Location is great.

2/10 Poor

Zero-star, NOT 3 Stars!

This hotel is worse than a zero-star. The bed does not even have a mattress, it is a piece of foam that is very light and slides around, extremely uncomfortable to sleep on. The pillow is a shapeless lump of cheap stuffing in a bag that does not even look like a pillow. The room is just enough to fit the bed and a chair, you have to walk sideways to go from the window side to the restroom. The bathroom can't be any simpler. The carpet is worn out and not clean. Not sure how it got a 3-star rating. It is way way worse than a motel 6 in the states. It is in a good location, near the museums and the staff were nice. If it were listed as a 0-star hostel, I would have give it a higher rating for what it is.

Location wasn't good and room was horrendous. Bed was hard, sheets were dusty, and cobwebs all over room. Would never stay again.

Horror stay in Amsterdam

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and rip off prices. Room was in a cellar & felt like a dungeon. Not clean and slept on top of bed. Paid 530 Euros for 2 nights but never went back the second night and had to pay for another hotel. Will not be using your company again as you should not be sending clients to sub standard hotels.

A last minute books for my ADE trip

Hotel Sander was a good hotel to stay at. A little miscommunication with some staff members but overall it was a good place to stay with easy access to public transportation and famous places and landmarks. Rooms are very clean and good for the solo traveler (a little small for couples).

Shocking service

I stayed here with 4 mates. We handed in 3 bags of washing what cost us €30. We got the bags back with everything mixed, loads of stuff missing and it didn't smell like it had been washed. Never stay here again.
