Catalonia Avinyó, Barcelona

Location is excellent in the gothic quarter. The breakfast was good and the staff was friendly. However the room was like a closet and not like the picture on the website. When I asked about this I was told the picture isn’t accurate. Basically they show a superior room but give you a standard room which they admit to as though there is nothing wrong with it. The bathroom was in poor repair and full of mildew stains. The sink was clogged and not fixed despite reporting it to the front desk. The floor in the room was peeling. Overall I would not stay here again.

Catalonia Avinyo met our expectations. We really enjoyed the roof top terrace with pool and hot tub. It is located in the middle of Barcelona with excellent restaurants within a 10 to 15 minute walk. Also approximately a 20 minute walk to Barcelona Beach. There is also a supermarket just across the street to purchase snacks. What more could you want!

I stayed at this hotel twice, each for 2 nights, for pre- and post-cruise purpose. I did not regret of making such choice. For location, it was very convenient. It only takes a few minutes walk, either to the south (ocean front), or to the east (to the Cathedral and Barri Gotic, and even to the Arc of Triomf), or to the west (La Ramblas, Liceu Metro Station and the Market, La Boqueria). I liked walking when I visited a city. And so, I can say this hotel's location is perfect for me. I only took metro (and buses and funicular) when I went to Parc Gruell, Montjuic, Spanish Village and The Castle). Breakfast for a fare of 10€ is pretty good. There was more than enough I could choose. The price is quite reasonable as I compared what I am paying now at the hotel I stay in Madrid. All 4 mornings, I ate at the hotel's restaurant. Well, if I visit Barcelona again, I will stay here again. By the way, I spent only 1 public transport ticket (2.20€ if you pay cash for 1 ride) to take train from airport to Sants Train Station and then to take Green Line 3 metro to Liceu station. I took me less than 10 minutes to walk to the hotel. It is quite easy to find the street (C. de Ferran) as there are KFC and McDonald at the entrance from La Ramblas to this street. Great hotel in the Gothic quarter, walk to everywhere! Near everything! Pool and hot tub were a great escape from the heat!
