Getting better
The renovated rooms will be nice when it’s all finished. We got one that was just finished and it was modernized. The unfinished things were inconvenient, and the breakfast could definitely use improvement, but I assume that will all be better later on.

The hotel was being renovated at the time we checked in. We had a group of about 10 people staying. There were construction taped off areas in the lobby (very unexpected and no regard to aesthetics for guests). The evening employee was not friendly. There was a hole cutout in the headboard/wall of my bed, obscured by a lampshade. It was concerning (as a female). There was a roach in my room, which I didn’t complain about. I killed it and I mentioned it upon checkout so they could fix it for the next guest and there was no concern or feedback from the front desk person. This is was a very poor experience, and it was clear that nobody cared.

Not counting a condo resort my son & I stayed in the for the bulk of our recent vacation, we stayed in 3 different hotels on our way to and from our vacation destination. Out of the 3 hotels, Hampton Inn in Mcalester was the best. The room and floor we were on had recently been remodeled. Everything was very clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The indoor pool was also clean and pleasant to swim in. The staff were friendly, and the breakfast was decent. The only complaint we have is that the toilet kept shutting off and on with no obvious cause (i.e. stuck chain or handle). We were also awakened just after 2 a.m. by two adult male voices outside our room talking loudly, but that could occur in any hotel. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. This would be our top choice of hotels in Mcalester, OK if we ever pass through there again.
