Staff were very friendly and welcoming and beds were clean and comfortable but the hotel needs a lot of TLC. Decor poor in places and simple things like broken bin in the room, dirty or damaged sealant in the bathroom were noticed. We used it as a one night stopover for an event in Tamworth and for the price it did the job.

The hotel was lovely, clean and had friendly staff that went out of their way to help as there was a situation with my Expedia booking which basically said that the room wasn’t booked on Saturday but they went out of their way to help and make sure we had a room for the night.

Room good, breakfast excellent, receptionist ultra helpful. Only prob a glitch with heating not coming on in morning so freezing in room. Maintenance man sorted it as soon as he knew. Would stay there again, good value for money, good position in town

It's an old building and the decor is showing wear and tear. However it's clean and convenient with friendly staff who knowing I was returning late had taken the trouble to close my curtains and leave the light on in the room for me (small touches gratefully received!)

Horrible rooms, we got moved from the 1st after complaining about condensation (lots), moving tap, cobwebs, mattress in the hallway all weekend, bathroom door swinging outwards as it was a sliding door. New and supposed to be improved room: Carpets leading to the room were soaked due to a leak from the ceiling, bulb out in room,shower leaked onto the bathroom floor, no extractor fan in the bathroom, tap had filth inside of it, dirty towel and MULTIPLE BLOOD STAINED PILLOWS ! REALLY. I should have read some of the reviews before i booked. Management did move us from 1 room with lots of issues to another with horrible issues. They changed the pillows but no pillow cases, and the impression they were giving me when i complained was that they did a good job solving the problems. Cant comment on the food there we didnt risk it. 1 or maybe 2 things you can think it happens. people make mistakes, but all this 2 different rooms massive failure. Expedia were no help THEY REFUSED TO REFUND ANYTHING

Castle Hotels Newish Owners have Only Had the Place for 11 Months Renovation Is Ongoing to rooms & Because of this The Capacity Isn't at its Max. THUS Being Said Booking For the Castle hotel Can be An issue. Expect Booking Agencies To Have details Of Max Capacity total of Rooms & Therefore Whilst This is Wrong Expect To turn up & Possibly (Hopefully Not) Be Double Booked. Because of This Issue & Until the Owners Realize this & Contact these agencies & update said Information. It's a Roulette If You Have a Place to Stay When you Get there. Over my 3 nights Stay I encountered a Colleague Who was Double booked & 5 Other Customers Also Double Booked. This Isn't A Good Sign. I also Had Fear of Being Double Booked BUT Booked over 1 Month In Advance. The Castle Hotel Is Weary And Old & With a New Lick of Paint & Some Better Under carpet Flooring Is Could Be Excellent Once again.How Far the New owners Take it Is Anyone's Guess But they Are Helpful & Genuinely Want To Give There Best. That I see. I DON'T However take Much Happiness In the Oldish Chap(caretaker?)Walking Around In Barefoot. THIS isn't A Standard You'd expect. Also Don't Expect To See Someone Trying to Sleep on a Sofa through the door glass of a room Opposite the Staircase by reception either. Conclusion: Some Standards are a Miss. Walking Along Corridors Upstairs & in your room Expect Creeking & an Undulating Floor As If your on a Rollercoaster. Prices are a Tad High for the Rooms maybe £30 less until standards return.

This hotel is in a seriously poor state, with significant damp issues in the corridors, many broken and cracked fixings on the walls and smell throughout the corridors. The roof is currently being fixed, and there is scaffolding outside. The beds were really quite comfortable, but that was its only saving grace. For the price this is not an acceptable condition.

Was not the room I booked so very dissapointed. To get room serviced you had to ask at reception and hand in your keys there was no notices telling you this only the little signs you put on door which were ignored.

The window sills were all rotting and need a repaint, small room, not enough space to put anything, pubic hairs in shower tray!! Staff were ok but not over friendly really. Kettle and mugs were clean and so was the toilet. Would have been ok if it was about £45 per night but it’s way too expensive for the condition of the place.

Reception was dark and deserted. No-one at the desk when I arrived to check in (or at any other time). Had to call a mobile number to get someone. I arrived at 13:10 and was told they wouldn’t check me in until 2pm. I mentioned I wouldn’t be able to return again until later that night, maybe 11 or later and they said that was fine. However by 6:30pm I’d had 2 missed calls from them to ask when I was coming back to check in! So I made a special trip back - this was the only time there was someone at reception). Other things - there was no toilet paper in any of the toilets at reception, there was only an end of a roll in my room with no spare roll. There was no hand soap or body wash or any kind supplied (there were 2 mini shampoos and a mini body lotion). There was no hot water whatsoever for the shower, even after leaving running for 5 minutes. The radiator in the room was on all night with no way of switching off (it was already at its lowest setting) and so I woke may times in the night with a dry throat. I could open the window a tiny bit but didn’t see how it could stay open - it just dropped straight back down when you let go. Still no-one at reception next morning so couldn’t get help with any of the things mentioned. Would not stay again.

An absolute disgrace of a hotel. Only staffed for check-in and the guy was pleasant enough. Dirty towels thrown in wardrobe on arrival. Mould everywhere in room. Blood on sheets. Toilet door was off the runner so we couldn’t even use it. Ripped carpets. Seriously was like something out of a nightmare. Smashed windows that didn’t open. Layers of dust….. I could go on and on!!!! It was t even cheap!
