Shabby and in desperate need of an update
Stayed in a garden room which is very tired. The roof in the walkway is rotten with holes in and lashed together to keep it up. The outside door was battered and peeling paint. Carpet in the lobby and stairs worn and dirty. In the room the windows are broken, blinds broken and half the bulbs in the bathroom not working. Such a shame because it could be a really good. You get the distinct impression that no one from the hotel really looks at the rooms and the conditions- or indeed care. As an aside had no hot water in the morning. No warning or apology from the hotel and again didn’t really seem to care. In desperate need of some money spent and just some tlc. The hotel management need to just open their eyes and see it through the eyes of paying guests

Would not recommend
Upon arrival at the property we followed the signs for the car park which was a long distance from the hotel. The weather was appalling and it was not clear if we could park any closer. There was nobody at reception on check in so had to wait a while. Once served we were not given the wifi code or important information such as were the facilities were, if the restaurant/bar was open, or about the complimentary drink option if we did not want the room serviced each day. Having walked the long distance from the car park in terrible conditions we now had a long walk to our room which was externally from the main hotel and this was not clear at time of booking.
The room itself had issues such as the curtains did not completely cover the windows so a chair had to be placed against it to keep out the light and for privacy; the bed and pillows was not very comfortable; the room service was not great as the bed was not made nicely and the bathroom bin was not emptied.

The room was a little dated and plenty of room, bathroom was nice and big but the shower head is covered in lime scale needs a good clean, as you face the bed the left side mattress is sloping i ended up rolling into the middle but comfortable, we spent 2 nights after our first night the cleaner took away the cups and spoons so we had nothing to make a drink and the waste in was not emptied

Not worth the price
The room was tiny. Large gap under the main door and bed right by it. You could hear everything, no privacy. Room was tired, flaking paint etc.
Staff were polite but had to find someone to check in.

System was down when i checked out, I was told I would receive an email with my invoice. It didn't arrive and I called and asked for it again and it still didn't arrive - not happy with such a basic requirement not being met.

Amazing place, beautiful setting and great value. Shower plug was blocked so ended up flooding the bathroom floor as it was a wet room style shower but apart from that very nice.

This was an interesting hotel as on the outside you think your going to a luxury manor type place but the inside is another story. Very tired and run down in many places shabby chic but not intentional. The whole hotel looks in need of a real makeover as the lack of investment really shows when you look closely. The staff were helpful and the gardens / setting beautiful but if you want real luxury it’s not the place to find it.

Nice property but we were in a Garden Room which was not so nice - the website should explain more where these rooms are, especially as it was the same price to stay inside the main building in the same room type (those garden rooms should be cheaper). It was annoying to drag suitcases across the gravel so far. We had noisy neighbours Sat night at around 3-4am. The breakfast was fine except we were not given a menu, therefore didn't know we could order fried, or poached eggs, or things like porridge. We were just shown the buffet. Everyone very pleasant to deal with though.

Awful bedrooms
Rooms very dated and in serious need of refurbishment. The windows are old and rotten which made the room very cold. There are wooden floors too which make the room colder and the floor boards are extremely noisy. A heater was provided so I am guessing that the hotel knows about this issue. The ceilings are high and the lights were covered in cobwebs and had obviously not been cleaned for some time. Old wooden bed frame that looked like it has seen better days. Tiles in bathroom were chipped. This is not a 4 star hotel!
