Arrived at hotel frustrated as there is no free parking. You either park in the garage or in the street with a fee. However inside the hotel is very unique looking it looks very historic and ancient. It’s adorable although rooms are quite small, as well as the toilet and shower. The kitchen is gorgeous but there was no breakfast available as promised. When we were there we didn’t not see a single soul except the cleaning lady. She did clean the bathrooms well. Also there was no ice. Depending on your personality you might love the street it’s on as it’s surrounded by restaurants and is very lively. But if you hate being stuck in traffic and hearing noises it’s not for you.

I love how my room felt like home because it was so bright and well furnished. When I got there to check in I didn't know how many stairs there were so if you are handicap this is not the place to stay at. The receptionist did not let me know ahead of time that our room was not in the building so I had to take our heavy luggage back down the three flights of stairs and head across the street where I was faced with another flight of stairs. One thing that I didn't like was I had to share a restroom and a shower with others. Overall I think the room was nice and I would definitely recommend people to stay here but just beware of the things that I pointed out.

The Delightful Hayes Valley Inn
We have stayed at the Hayes Valley Inn many times and love the funky ambience and the wonderful location in the Hayes Valley, which is very convenient to public transportation. It truly feels like our home away from home!

Very nice...
The hotel feels clean and safe and it's in a great . The room I had was small with some noise from the window. The shared bathrooms were cleaned throughout the day, and were always free when I need them. I was worried about taking a shower, however it was easy for me to cover myself and walk a few short steps to the shower, and I never saw anyone in the hallway. The kitchen / dining area is an impressive room with large bay windows and city view. I was surprised to find a nice breakfast with cereals, fresh bagels, toast, muffins, fresh fruit, tea, and coffee. The only thing that made me uncomfortable was the young girl at the desk, who was very nice, but was clearly snooping at all my ID info. Maybe she was just overly curious, but with ID theft and breach of privacy so pervasive, it was very disturbing. There are organizations working on stopping hotels from prying into guests private info, by creating a new type of ID with just the name and a number. Until then, I hope this hotel trains staff to properly handle guests ID. I stayed at two different hotels in the Bay Area. One was very highly rated, and didn't ask for my ID. The second hotel just checked my name quickly with my reservation name. But the young girl at Hayes Valley Inn, stared and looked over all my private details. She was trying to be discreet, and probably didn't realize how obvious it was. I have to dock the service because of this. Otherwise everything here was better than expected.

Sweet hotel but...

Poor
The room itself was not bad, small but tidy and clean. The human and automobile traffic was noisy but not so much that I could not sleep. My main complaint is that I was not able to log onto WiFi during my stay. I had important work to do on my computer and also wanted to stream movies before bed. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with the front desk and was given one password after another until I finally gave up. Called the next day and was told that I was supposed to log onto a different WiFi network since I stayed in a different building (which differed from the info I was given the night before) and at best I could get a $10 refund because it was “just a miscommunication”. Except, how is it a “miscommunication” being given misinformation, wasting valuable time on the phone during my stay then again the next day, and ultimately never being able to access WiFi? WiFi is one of the few amenities offered by this hotel and so at the very least the hotel needs to be diligent about ensuring guests have access to WiFi.

Poor
They gave me a small room in another building. The building was not a hotel but a hostel room with shared restroom. Its entrance was complicated with 3 different keys and reception did not help me check in to my room at first. I will never live here again. Breakfast did not have any eggs. It was just breads and cereals.
