The most dirtiest 4 star hotel I’ve ever stayed
At check in, the staffs handles the luggage for Japanese visitors ONLY, not anyone else. All 3 onsite restaurants serve reservations only, no walk-ins, and the staffs doesn’t tell you at all until you found out yourselves. No in-room slippers besides the one wears within the hotel. No hair brush at all, there’s only one in the public onsen area which was terribly dirty that used by everyone. The outdoor onsen was okay, but the panoramic onsen has water keep dripping down to your head from the ceiling because of the steams. The room is the smallest comparing to other onsen hotels, the TV is very small, the bathroom is extremely small and dirty, the shower curtain has dead bug, stains, mildew and mold on it. The buffet breakfast is very poor and simply me, not much varieties, plus 85% of stuffs are vegetarian, the restaurant closes at 10am, but they STOP refilling any of the food trays anymore from 9am at one of the mornings during my stay. This is totally should not be rated as a 4 star hotel, you feel like been staying at a 2.5 star ryokan!!! No services and not clean. Will never ever staying here again and totally not recommended.

It was wonderful stay at Sumeikan and enjoyed three different public bath with my wife. The stffs are friendly and it was nice experience for twin beds and Japanese style hot table with tadami floor. However, my room was mountain view and we were nat able to enjoy brookview this time.

It was our first staying at a Ryokan, we enjoyed our stay because our rooms are big and comfortable. The morning bath at the open air bath during sub zero temperature was my most unforgettable experience. Would definitely visit again when I go back to Japan.

We booked the traditional suite room, it was so big and comfy, the only thing I really didn’t like is the hair dryer, it is the very old one that fixed on the wall with very low heat and air came out. We asked the hotel for any portable hairdryer but they didn’t have it. For woman like me with long hair, you better bring your own hairdryer, if not you probably need to dry your hair with at least 20mins just like me. I will come again if they change the hair dryer, if not I believe gero have lots of other options too

I love the Suimeikan! This is the 5th time I've stayed at the hotel. Their onsen is THE best and they have three great onsen options. Our room was clean and spacious. Love the traditional tatami room. Also, their breakfast buffet is really delicious, especially if you like Japanese breakfast - although their butter roll is amazing!

Outstanding
We loved the Suimeken. We were warmly welcomed upon entering, and a friendly staff guided us around since it’s a fairly large compound. We were very happy with our room and the facilities all around. Great place to come unwind.

The beautiful grand old lady - we had a Japanese style room which find out the type of the room was not for everyone- hard to get up from floor since we are seniors. But other than that like having personal guide to take to your room after checking in was a huge help. Restaurants and breakfast buffets were good. It’s an old Japanese hotel which will give you great old Japanese hospitality but not modern ones. We had good experience.

This place has everything you need in a full service onsen resort hotel, and it has the history to go with it. Great place for families, couple or solo travellers. Easy access to Gero station. Multiple restaurants in the hotel if you don't wish to head out. 3 different baths, including one that is open 24hrs. The size of the hotel (biggest in Gero) means there is a lack of intimacy and privacy that you get from a smaller, more family-run onsen ryokan. Also, it can get busy with a lot of people moving around, but it's also lively because of that. Probably the best breakfast buffet I've had in an onsen hotel. I'll probably try another ryokan if I'm in Gero again but this makes a great first-time stay.

Excellent hotel!
The room was very nice, spacious, and clean. I loved how the shower & bath had its own separate room in the bathroom. The multiple onsens were nice - 3 separate onsem areas spaced throughout the hotel.
