Honest review
The hotel has beautiful grounds, the bar, restaurant and swimming facilities are very nice. Our room was basic but clean and the bed was comfy. We don’t pay extra for views as the room was only to sleep in. The service at the bar was a bit slow and the flooring in the corridors and our room was all very uneven….it was so noticeable when you were just walking around the room / corridor you were aware of sloping. Hotel was a bit old fashioned but stayed in plenty of other hotels in the area and they are similar. I would stay again as I thought it was good value for money for the area and getting the leisure facilities. Don’t let it put you off it being up a hill as it didn’t take long at all to walk in and back from the Main Street.

First time at the hotel and couldn’t recommend it enough, the staff are all super friendly and chatted away our room was ready before check in time and was spotless. We had dinner one night and it was fantastic and hot. We enjoyed our 2 night stay so much we have already booked again.

Poor reception service.
Room not ready at the agreed time - told to wait in the bar while they checked with housekeeping and would let me know when ready. 90 minutes later I returned to reception - they had forgotten and it was now available…..asked the rate for a weeks time - told it was busy so £200 - I checked on hotels £100.

Less than expected
Stay was ok. After photos on page I was expecting it to be newer. It was a bit tired. Room was clean but miss matched furniture. Bathroom was not modern like photos. Pool area cleanliness was lacking. Particularly sauna floor and ladies changing rooms, it’s dirt not just from that day. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was very good. The breakfast room was extremely hot and uncomfortable. Lovely building with nice views just a pity it’s been under invested in over the years.

Great staff but needs updates.
Very friendly staff but hotel was older with taps that had hot on one side and cold on another. Water temp on the shower was variable and sometimes went from scalding to freezing cold in an instant. Made for an interesting adventure. We only stayed a night and probably would stay again if we were pressed for a hotel as the staff was very helpful and welcoming.

The tranquil surroundings.
Nice homely hotel, with a nice bar with very comfortable seating with a good choice of beers. Nice looking out at the distant view in the mornings with the snow covered hills and nearby properties it was nice getting out in the clean fresh air with very little traffic about.

Great for families
We booked two rooms. The one the kids stayed in was lovely and cosy. Ours was freezing. Despite the staff saying they were on it, I don't think a fix was even possible. The beds were clear and comfortable.
The hotel building is marvellous and all the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. I think it would be great for a family with primary school age kids. There are loads of board games; a pool that, isn't lifeguarded but also isn't too deep (it's a bit cold but kids don't usually mind that). It's a very short walk (5 mins to the main street) but you need to negotiate some muddy steps - no good for a family with a buggy or mobility issues. We had a fantastic stay.

Lovely stay
Had a lovely stay with my partner and our dog. The scenic view room was massive and worth paying the extra for. The breakfast buffet was good with all needs catered for. The hotel is extremely dog friendly with dogs being allowed in the bar area. The singer for entertainment was also very good. Only negative is some of the building is looking a little run down but there were signs of maintenance taking place e.g. painting. We loved our stay and would return.

Have written to hotel with complaint on 17th December but no reply from them at all. They were helpful re gluten free foods but there must have been cross contamination in the kitchen as I was very ill. Had to go hom about midnight as room very very cold.
