Misleading

My wife and I celebrated her 30th birthday a couple weeks ago and were a bit disappointed with the hotel. Our first encounter upon entering the room was a fishy odor and we had to have the room re-cleaned (someone had fish in the mini-fridge). We are avid travelers and spend a lot of time in hotels around the world and we were surprised to find a charge for WiFi service. Especially when free WiFi can be found in the cheapest of motels! The gym is VERY small, and the pools were dirty. We selected this hotel because of the reviews and should have gone with instincts to book the LaPlaya. There was also a lot of noise from the onsite construction. This hotel is overpriced.

Best of Old and New

As I read the negative reviews, it seemed that most of them were from a few years ago. When requesting a room, we were told that the entire resort had been renovated. The resort has 5 different buildings and we stayed in the Watkins Wing, which is what we requested because it's the closest to the pool. Housekeeping was wonderful, as was the service all over the resort. I was a bit put off with paying $10 a day for Wifi, as to me it seems standard, like having a TV in the room and a door that locks. We grocery shopped and ate some meals in our room to save some money, so I can't comment on the restaurants. However we did frequent to ice cream shop and pool bar and those were excellent. Guests are allowed to use their room key to put charges on your room bill, which is very convenient but can be dangerous if not careful. We loved watching the sunset right from the pool deck or just by stepping down to the beach from the pool. Even though we visited Naples during a busy time (Spring Break), we never felt crowded or like there was a lot of waiting. Great trip!!
