Two-tenths of a full point Does Make a Difference
The good news about this hotel was with respect to its absolutely excellent location. The sad news is that for about $15 per night more, one could stay in a "next door" much-more modern hotel; or for about $1,400 per night more; one could stay in another "next door" much-more SUPERB hotel. The Duangtawan Hotel Chiang Mai has definite signs of infrastructural and quality decline due to aging, it caters to massive sized tour groups, it lost electric service twice during our stay (noticeably not lost at the "next door" hotels, most of its staff lack basic foreign language skills, and the service we received in the hotel's restaurant was extremely slow.

Service is acceptable, just that the personnel at the reception, restaurant, concierge, noon of them shows friendlying, cheerful smile. Hotel is not new but big, big room, big pool! I can choose to stay again next time if not asking too much

you know these types of hotels !
this hotel is typical of the no balcony high rise built in the 70's all cities have. it looks very pretty when you walk in, and no complaint about the room. the strange thing though that it's been the only place in thailand or laos i've seen ever that has no little shower hose beside the toilets. like.. not in the rooms, not in the showers by the pool( which is gorgeous by the way) and not in the lobby bathrooms. the service is impersonal which is typical if these grand scale places, people coming and going all the time, but no warmth or down to earth feel. it's in a great area though, close to night bazaar and old city, and lots of different ethnic restaurants to eat in - it's right across the street from the best indian food you will ever eat - i don't know the name but it's right in between the two massage parlours.taxis and tuk tuks park right up the street so easy to grab one. the free breakfast is buffet and we had no complaints, food wasn't great but wasn't bad either, the congee was really good though, and definitely a lot of choice. we preferred the Night Bazaar Inn up the road, more personal, cleaner, just a more down to earth time.
