6/10 Good

Decent, but isolated and plagued with Chinese
This hotel has incredible views, a terrific bathhouse vista, and a friendly staff. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend due to its inaccessible location. The bus from Oita Airport drops you off a twelve minute steep uphill walk from the hotel. The walk to and from either of the closest bus stops is very precarious, and was scary at night. There are no street lights around, and hundreds of tiny crabs occupy the sidewalk at night. If you turn a flashlight on, you'll be greeted by all manner of enormous flying, biting bugs. There is a shuttle service to and from Beppu Station, but the departure times are infrequent and stop around 6PM.
The bathhouse, the main reason I stayed here, was ruined every night by loud, rude, obnoxious Chinese families. These multi-generational Chinese families should not be allowed at this hotel. Screaming, splashing little children, obese middle-aged men who drain the bath water when they enter, and elderly men who encourage the screaming of the children completely ruin the otherwise tranquil seaside hot springs.
Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired in terms of flavors. Most dishes are fried and breaded, resulting in the majority tasting the same. More fresh fruit and vegetable options are sorely needed.
Even though I did not choose the Eco-Friendly room cleaning option, my sheets were not changed daily.
Beppu is nice, but if you want to maximize time spent there, find a closer hotel to Beppu Station. This hotel is tough to reach and hard to leave.
