We expected more
This will have to be point form as i ran out of room in original write up. Redicilously expensive transport to/from airport. Over $100 NZ for wife and I for a 8 minute ride. Same cost to go anywhere on island. Water in taps not safe to drink. No one told us until we asked and then were initially told yes. They are not. There is a filtered water tap in laundry room. We had to ask about.No bottle of filtered water in room. No free wifi. No netflix on tv. We previously stayed at more budget place in Muri Moto that had free wifi, a bottle of filtered water in fridge, and easy access to the filtered tap. Oh, and Edgewater didnt inform transport company about our pick up. Food mediocre. No shade in pool. Lots of little kids so better for families.

Everything about the edgewater is basic and average. It feels like theyre putting more money into building more villas when they should be putting more money into customer experience and maintainence of the property. Pros: The staff were generally really friendly and welcoming Lots of daily activities available, free use of snorkelling gear and reef shoes. Although no kayak or paddle board hire as compared to other resorts we visited. The food and drinks at the restaurant was pretty good Cons: Our room was musty, the door was broken, shower pressure was non existence and felt grimy. There is no free wifi available, you have to pay for wifi. Breakfast was really disappointing. You have to pay for a hot breakfast. All that is on offer is cereal, yogurt, fruit, fruit juice and toast. The beach is quite choppy and rough compared to other parts of the island.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Resort. Most of the amenities and activities at the Resort were available and accessible but parking seems to be a problem. Food was good but we waited nearly an hour and a half for our meal at Spaghetti House. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. We liked where our room was. However, it appears that the the room needs modernizing or updating. The TV was not user friendly, and we had to phone for assistance twice. Just a note, on the second call, the staff member at reception was rude because he kept interrupting me while I was trying to explain the issue, poor customer service in my view. The cooling system on the air-conditioned unit stopped working after the 3rd day, which was frustrating because it was very hot and humid, and the fan can only so much. The disappointing thing about it was trying to get assistance to address it promptly. Our first call to reception led to a maintenance staff member attending to the issue. He claimed it was fixed but it wasn't. To be honest it appeared that he didn't know what he was doing and really didn't want to be there. We called reception a second time a couple day's later and was told they will send someone but no one turned up. The matter was finally addressed by a different person 2 days later after our third call but it was nearing our time to leave. So some positives and some negatives to work on.

I had the most wonderful time at the Expedia. The location is glorious, the food is fantastic (and very reasonably priced), and the staff could not have been more friendly, generous, helpful and welcoming. I particularly appreciated the Edgewater's on-site activities adviser: Tamatoa. I visited him every day for recommendations and advice about things to do around the island, and his suggestions were spot on. He even rang around and made bookings for me. All in all, my week at the Edgewater was bliss. I'll definitely be going back.

In Need of Updating
To be fair, this trip has reinforced we are not resort people. The service was impersonal and the crowd was very family oriented. The food was good and the room was fine. I think the main drawback was the dated age of the property and the worn condition of the furniture, towels, beach shoes etc.

Big resort on Western coast
Big resort with restaurant, bar, pool and other facilities. Gardens are scrupulously looked after. Staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. The pool was closed for a few days because guests (or parents of guests) cannot behave properly. The beach is a great plus.
