Top neighborhoods in Nagoya

Sakae

In the heart of Nagoya, this bustling commercial district offers shopping at Matsuzakaya, Maruei Sakae, and Mitsukoshi, as well as the iconic 180-meter Nagoya TV Tower. Enjoy diverse dining options at Oasis 21, which also houses a bus terminal.

Meieki

Nagoya's Meieki area pulses with energy around Japan's massive transportation hub. Shop till you drop at Midland Square or Takashimaya department store, then catch breathtaking city views from the Sky Promenade. The soaring JR Central Towers and twisting Mode Gakuen Spiral Towers create an impressive skyline worth admiring from every angle. Underground food courts serve everything from conveyor-belt sushi to Nagoya's famous miso katsu. Hotels of all types cluster conveniently around the station, making exploration a breeze. With multiple train lines and subway stations connecting throughout, you'll zip around the city without breaking a sweat.

Osu

Osu's covered shopping arcade buzzes with more than 1,200 shops selling everything from cutting-edge electronics to quirky vintage threads. The iconic red-pillared Osu Kannon Temple offers a peaceful escape from the retail madness, while cosplay shops and retro arcades keep the fun factor high. Street performances pop up regularly, giving the area its unmistakable energy. Restaurants serve up tasty Nagoya specialties like miso katsu alongside international fare in this walkable district. Two metro stations make exploring beyond Osu a breeze, and nearby business hotels offer convenient places to crash after a day of shopping and temple-hopping.

Kanayama

Kanayama buzzes with energy as a major transit hub where Nagoya's pulse beats strongest. Atsuta Jingu Shrine offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle, while the Nagoya-Boston Museum of Fine Arts delivers cultural hits. After dark, karaoke venues light up and the Asunal Kanayama shopping complex keeps the action going with stores and eateries that locals swear by. Getting around couldn't be easier with Kanayama Station connecting JR trains, subway lines, and buses in all directions. Comfortable business hotels and cozy cafes dot the landscape, perfect for travellers who want convenience without sacrificing comfort. The area balances urban energy with just enough quiet corners to catch your breath.

Nagoya City Centre

Nagoya City Centre pulses with energy around its massive transportation hub. The gleaming Nagoya Station connects to bullet trains while towering corporate headquarters dot the skyline. Science and art museums offer cultural breaks between shopping trips to underground malls and department stores. Parks like Shirakawa provide peaceful spots when you need a breather from the bustling streets. Hotels range from sleek business accommodations to luxury chains, all within steps of excellent transit options. Grab authentic hitsumabushi eel or miso katsu at basement food courts before exploring the nightlife in Sakae district. Getting around is a breeze with trains every few minutes and extensive underground walkways connecting major attractions.

Nagoya and related destinations

Between ancient temples and futuristic skyscrapers, Nagoya reveals itself as Japan's underappreciated marvel. The reconstructed Nagoya Castle dazzles with golden dolphins atop its roof, while the Toyota Automobile Museum tells the story of Japan's industrial might through perfectly polished vintage cars. At Port of Nagoya Aquarium, dolphins perform with such enthusiasm you'd think they were auditioning for something better. LEGOLAND Japan offers brick-built wonders that delight children and secretly impress adults. For a cultural fix, the Nagoya City Art Museum houses treasures in a building that's itself a masterpiece of modernism. Save room for miso-katsu, the local breaded pork cutlet that locals defend with surprising passion.

"The room was excellent. More importantly, The team at Nikko Style Nagoya has been extremely helpful from booking to checkout. The service in English is more than appreciated and their extra attention did not go unnoticed. They took in an important delivery for me before my check in and kept it safe until I arrived. I also ended up losing my phone in Suzuka, and they took the time to call the restaurant for me to relocate it. I can’t thank them enough for their help and amazing service. Shout out to Maiko Honogaki and the team for being so understanding and helpful in retrieving my phone. Grateful for you all. Thank you. "

6/10 Okay
"The location was PERFECT. I could not have had a better location. It was on the middle of everything. I would stay again because of where it was. The room itself was just that… a room. The bed was hard as a cheap futon and didn’t have any spring or softness. I felt my shoulder and hip bones digging into the mattress because it was so hard. I could only lie flat to feel any type of comfort. The staff was amazing and helped me navigate my travels. I just wish the room was better…"

Toyoko Inn Nagoya Meieki Minami

6/10 Okay
"Our stay was okay. We got a twin room which was a good size, however the beds were too hard and the pillows uncomfortable. I am not sure if that is a Japanese thing, but we didn’t find it comfortable. The room cleaning only included change of towels and making the bed but not proper cleaning. They have a family mart in the hotel which is handy and free shuttle to Nagoya Station, however the shuttle wasn’t working when we arrived or when we left so we could t make use of it. They charged to provide a towel for my son which i did not appreciate. The breakfast had a lot of options but more lunch items than breakfast, no fruits. And the hotel was always busy. The laundry facility is handy, and they have lots of elevators which is good as well. I guess more breakfast options and a more comfortable bed would improve our stay, but overall it was a good value for the price. "
