'Ding' Darling Wildlife Refuge offers a drive-through safari where alligators and roseate spoonbills pose obligingly for photos. Rent a bike to explore 25 miles of paths that wind past mangroves and through areas where mailboxes are shaped like manatees and pelicans. The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum displays specimens that make your beach finds seem suddenly inadequate.
