We stayed in an apartment building tucked behind the main Hotel Salinas and appreciated the full kitchen and large space to spread out. We started out with an apartment up the hill further, but we weren't able to get internet reception there, so we requested a room transfer. We would not have booked without internet (yes, we're that sort of people), and we were happy to be moved to another apartment with more consistent internet. Once we had moved our things to the new apartment, I needed to go back to the main desk to request the necessities such as hand soap, bedding, towels, etc., since the room was obviously not ready for guests. There is no cleaning service in these apartment rooms during your stay, so be aware of that. The apartment itself was kind of gloomy with dark wood and outdated decor, but it served our needs well.
Be aware that this hotel is situated up a steep hill from the nearest train station and there is no bus service available. The hotel will shuttle you for 7 Swiss Francs. The hotel is also not extremely easy to find. We used online mapping software to locate it, and even then we weren't sure we were going the right way. I almost cried getting from the train station to the hotel with our luggage because of the steep long walk . . . on a hot day. Once we were settled, we considered it exercise to walk up the hill from the train station after our day trips, but that first day it was quite an experience. Also a long way to go to get groceries.
