Property was very outdated and carpets in hallway were stained & filthy, also kitchen was way under staffed, only 1 women trying to keep up entire dinning area by herself. This for the 3 nights I spent there.

This property is showing the wrong room pictures and description under the Family suits. The description and the pictures said “ separate bedroom, one living room’, actually they put all three beds in one room and the young reception person told me that he doesn’t know why the management put different room picture to make like one suit. It’s dishonest and cheating. He also doesn’t provide any manger or boss contact info, just said the boss will be back in 2 months. Very poor experience.

No rooms available
Booked my room in April 2023 for a one night stay in august. When I arrived I was told that there was no room available and that they had a “cabin” I could stay in with my wife. The cabin had a pallet for a front step a painted cement floor with 3 fold out beds and a dank odor. I told them That I would make other arrangements and left. Still awaiting a refund.

This hotel canceled on us the day we were supposed to check-in. Quite a frustrating experience coming off a five hour hike to find that we no longer had a place to stay for the evening. While Expedia customer service was able to help us find new accommodations, the only available property was a glamping resort nearby. And, while we were thankful to have something, this was quite a frustrating inconvenience for our trip. Additionally when we had told a few locals about our experience, they had mentioned that they have heard of similar experiences with Hotel Hella. All-in-all 0/5 stars. Stay away from this place.

4/10 Fair

Very disappointed with our stay, various problems which I shall list. Firstly the rooms are very dated from 70's unlike their revamped foyer and not at all soundproofed you can hear people walking around and talking. Immediately told only the foyer TV worked none of the room ones worked apparently. Our window did not close, noisy playground nearby and a car alarm kept going off at 5am one morning right outside. First night fire alarm went off at 11.30pm and no staff on site to sort out, also an annoying white flashing ceiling smoke alarm so had to wear eyemask to sleep. The light switches are linked to the plug sockets on one side of the room so my phone did not charge overnight which was pretty irritating. Shower cubicle very small with no cover over drain so was terrified of dropping items. No bathmat provided so used hand towels that they took away and didn't replace. On our three night stay the breakfasts just got worse and worse. No vegan dairy alternatives, and no teabags! Only coffee, awful herbal fruit tea and very watered down orange juice. Rubbery cold crepes if you were lucky to get there at the right time. Lukewarm meats and sliced cheese or toast and melon slices that's about it. The only good points were beds were comfy and hot water for shower plentiful, I would not recommend this place, our honeymoon did not feel special and I found the lack of even having teabags really very poor.

The staff was very nice and helpful. The building itself is older and needs some maintenance. A few things from our room, 1) the blackout curtains didn't cover the whole window which makes it difficult to sleep during the Icelandic summers - you will need a eye mask, 2) Our shower knob was broken off but it still worked, 3) smoke detector had tape over in a few places and 4) our sheets had some type of orange/brown stain on them.

Avoid this as much as you can!!! Their reservation system is a MESS!!!! They evicted us because they don’t have room available, and ask us to call Expedia at their lobby. Like this is non of their business :) Expedia customer service not able to reach out to them and we have to KINDLY ASK for them to pick up the phone (avoid the time when they are getting tip from another customer) :) Yes, they blamed us for ask them to pick us the phone when they are checking out another customer. So far the WORSE hotel experience ever!!! They want us to deal with all the situations and to appreciate everything they do for us. If you book the room when they have available, you are their god. If you got unlucky when they are not available, them you are a bug.

I was asked by Expedia to comment on how the check process went. Well, there was no check-in, at all. Although we paid the room in advance through Expedia, upon arrival the receptionist told us the hotel was fully booked and our booking was confirmed only "due to an error in the hotel's system". They had us wait for about 45 minutes to see whether there was no cancellation on a room (we were offered coffee and tea as consolation) and then we were asked to look for another accommodation. This all happened late in the day, at about 9:00 pm! Luckily we managed to find another place to spend the night. We are now hoping for a speedy return of our money.

Clean but nothing special
Little hotel in a tiny town. It was kind of deserted and the on-site restaurant was closed so needed to go across the street for an average dinner. Hotel clean but small rooms and tiny bath. Breakfast was so so. Staff was friendly when you saw them, but overall a very average experience.
